About our Team:
Our team creates both print-ready and digital versions of each publication, which may include sleeve designs, packaging, point-of-sale, and advertising materials, all prepared for production or duplication. We review and proof relevant copies, utilizing both internal and external resources for different production stages. Artwork is adapted for various territories or market releases. The team often negotiates with vendors and suppliers and works closely with procurement. This is a developing professional role, requiring working knowledge in the field, solving routine problems, and demonstrating proficiency with standard concepts and procedures, while receiving moderate guidance from more senior colleagues.
About the Role:
The Advertising Production Manager oversees the management of advertising for an assigned list of society and proprietary titles, including planning, layout, and day-to-day management of advertising workflow, prepress/print suppliers and global systems and toolsets.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for issue layouts for ad intensive journals with complex layout requirements, applying knowledge of editorial rules and advertising industry guidelines to meet requirements for both our society/editorial and commercial advertising customers, as well as incorporating technical and manufacturing expertise to produce cost-effective layouts.
- Proactively ensures ad ledger is received from display and classified Delivery Owners according to production schedule deadlines and coordinates with Journal Manager regarding editorial page counts and final issue compilation. Closely monitors production schedules and timetables to ensure timely completion of ad layout and submission of all paid, society, and house ads to suppliers. Proactively detects and resolves any potential advertising problems that may disrupt production timeline. Maintains general familiarity with entire production process to maximize efficiencies with Journal Management.
- Interacts with Advertising Sales, Journal Management, Local Supplier Management, STMJ Publishing, and suppliers as needed to ensure quality on-time delivery of all advertising, especially with regard to late ad space and material requests. This includes display advertising and supplied inserts, the coordination of house and society ads, as well as specialty advertising such as cover wraps, outserts, bellybands, and split-run advertising, for both regular issues and any planned or ad-hoc print supplements.
- Handles proofing of all advertising within assigned issues, as required. Liaises with printer suppliers for any queries or issues with advertising print quality control.
- Serves as primary resource for advertising support for external customers (display and classified advertisers, agencies, societies), as well as primary internal resource for ad production questions and resolution of issues, for Ad Sales (internal Sales Delivery Owners, external sales partners), Journal Management, and STMJ Publishing, to ensure best practices. Support sales staff with scheduling issues, resolves potential ad space or material extension requests, and proactively assists with potential/overlooked issues, demonstrating collaboration and teamwork.
- Monitors ad page volumes, as required; reviews journal requirements annually; updates relevant department documents. Supports cross-functional teams in monitoring and achieving monthly, quarterly and yearly production dispatch targets.
- Assists with and supports implementation of new workflow/best practice initiatives; ensures ad workflow optimization and PTS compliance wherever possible. Supports individual and group process improvement project work. Monitors and provides support for any changes to individual title requirements across the portfolio.
Requirements:
• Experience in publishing industry.
• Strong English language skills, with sound communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to work independently but also be an excellent team player willing to adapt to the needs and requirements of a busy department.
• Strong organisational skills. A can-do approach to work and an interest in medical publishing. Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
