KIPP New Jersey is part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students for success in college and in life. In 2002, KIPP New Jersey first opened its doors in Newark’s South Ward as a single class of 80 fifth graders and has since grown to educate students in grades K-12 across 17 schools in Newark and Camden. More than 90% of KIPP New Jersey students currently qualify for free or reduced meals.

We believe that in order to execute at the highest level necessary for our schools to fulfill promises to all students, we must develop our operational leaders with as much purpose as we develop our instructional leaders. We are therefore seeking candidates who can start immediately to participate in an interim fellowship. The fellowship is focused on training and on-the-job experience for all of the non-instructional areas that are required to run a school.

Here’s what you’ll be doing as a Director of Campus Operations:
People Management:
  • Manage the school operations staff and all other school support members on the operations team.
  • Implement and execute a performance management system for direct reports.
  • Conduct weekly individual meetings, team meetings, and provide professional development.
  • Lead and manage the work of project teams in areas such as events, testing, attendance interventions, and general process/operational improvements and effeciencies. 
Finance and Purchasing:
  • Develop and manage the school’s budget and oversee purchasing for the campus
Attendance:
  • Work closely with school leadership to build systems and structures that ensure all students are attending school regularly and to make sure chronically absent students are receiving the support they need.
School Operations:
  • Ensure that day-to-day school operating systems run smoothly and efficiently including front office systems, transportation, routines, transitions, arrival and dismissal.
Academic Support Operations:
  • Manage the operational logistics of all student scheduling and test administration, in coordination with school leadership and/or teaching staff.
Student Recruitment/Enrollment:
  • Ensure that each school meets annual enrollment targets by backwards planning from target enrollment numbers and dates, planning events and outreach to families, and establishing partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
Technology:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of school-based technology projects by ensuring that school leaders, students and staff have access to the technology they need. Plan any technology-related enhancements or additional purchases for the subsequent school year.
Facilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of facilities and maintain a beautiful campus.
Vendor Management:
  • Procure and manage all vendors needed for the smooth and successful operation of the facility, including: contractors, service providers and maintenance workers.
Nutrition program:
  • Oversee the food service management company to ensure the meal program meets the network’s expectations and maintains compliance for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner.
Compliance:
  • Ensure school-wide compliance with health and safety laws, staff certification and fingerprinting, onboarding requirements, city and state education mandates, and all federal and state workplace regulations.
Community Partnerships:
  • Develop and manage a protocol for community use of the building that includes MOUs, background checks, and compliant use of the facility.

Qualifications
Must Haves:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 4+ years of work experience, preferably in business or operations management
  • An interest in education or the non-profit sector
  • Experience managing others
  • A history of building relationships and driving results
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for traveling around the city
  • Evening and weekend availability and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done
  • A passion for the mission, vision, and values of KIPP New Jersey
  • Flexibility – ability to solve problems in a complex, at times ambiguous, and fast-moving environment
  • Comfort working both on teams and independently
  • Comfort with giving and receiving feedback
  • A willingness to continually learn and improve

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $117,000-$152,658. Salary ranges at KIPP are set based upon the role level and function using benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector and allow for growth within the role. Individual compensation within this range will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant professional experience and qualifications; education, skills and training; and market conditions.
