The University of Texas at Dallas has an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to join our team as an Academic Advisor I in the Jindal School of Management (JSOM).

In this role, the advisor will collaborate with fellow advisors, program directors, deans, and faculty to guide JSOM students on degree program requirements. Responsibilities include assisting students with course registration, creating and maintaining student records, and supporting new student orientation activities.

As a member of the Advising Office welcome team, the advisor will serve as the initial point of contact for students, responding to general inquiries and directing more complex questions to the appropriate departments. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports the planning and delivery of academic advising services aimed at helping students explore and achieve their educational goals. Works under general supervision and within established guidelines to assist students in understanding academic requirements and navigating university systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students across various campus offices to address the academic advising needs of individuals and groups.
  • Advises students on the development of educational plans, university policies, and available resources.
  • Reviews and analyzes student records in preparation for appointments or walk-ins; responds to student emails in a timely and professional manner.
  • Understands and interprets academic requirements and options both within a specific area and across other campus departments to support students in pursuing their academic interests.
  • Participates in training sessions and professional development workshops, shares relevant information with staff, and engages in student success initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures, academic requirements, and campus resources.
  • Capable of using multiple computer systems, including PeopleSoft, OnBase, StudentBook, and Microsoft Office.
  • Able to assess students’ needs and make appropriate referrals while maintaining the confidentiality of student records.
  • Exhibits strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, along with strong organizational and management abilities.
