Academic Advisor, Purdue Polytechnic Full Description

Academic Advisors foster an inclusive and supportive environment that challenges and empowers students throughout their academic journey. By centering student development and integrating both curricular and co-curricular experiences, advisors guide students in making informed decisions that lead to the achievement of their educational, career, and personal goals.
 
In this role, you will create a welcoming and respectful atmosphere by practicing equity-minded, student-centered advising. You will recognize and value each student’s unique strengths and background, tailoring your guidance to meet students where they are and leveraging their individual social capital. Advisors empower students to take ownership of their learning, assist with course selection and registration, and connect students to campus activities and opportunities related to their major.
 
Key responsibilities include maintaining consistent communication with assigned students, using data to monitor academic progress, and conducting degree audits to ensure timely completion of requirements. You will identify when students need additional support and refer them to appropriate campus resources, always maintaining confidentiality of student records. Additionally, you will educate students about university structures, policies, and practices to help them successfully navigate their academic experience.
