Academic Retention Specialist Full Description

The Academic Retention Specialist will provide direct service to students using the Tribal Nations Student Affairs (TNSA) office who require extensive academic support. This position will assist with managing the Indigenous Scholars Training for Excellence Program (INSTEP), working closely with University Advising Services, Student Support Services, Counseling and Testing Center, and other departments to support retention and completion of students' undergraduate degrees. This position facilitates workshops, support groups and orientation activities.

Responsibilities

Meet with students on a regular basis to monitor academic progress.
Assess and coordinate academic tutoring opportunities for students.
Oversee daily study tables.
Guide and mentor students in exploration of their choice of majors and coursework.
Advise and mentor students on personal, financial, social, tribal and academic related matters.
Research scholarship and internship opportunities; co-teach the TNSA Fall seminar course.

Position Qualifications

One year working with Indigenous populations in higher education or student service programs, in a mentoring, advising, or other college level academic support role.
Bachelor’s degree required at time of application.
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI requirement for driving university vehicles.
Ability to work nonstandard hours including evenings and weekends, and to travel for academic programming.

Compensation: $23.95 per hour depending on education and experience. Full Time, Non-Exempt, Classified, FTE 1.0, based in Moscow, ID.
