Job Description:

The Academic Success Advisor serves as a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and graduation university-wide and, within the College of Health Solutions (CHS) Online Degree Programs. They play a critical role in guiding students toward timely degree completion. This position provides proactive, holistic, and student-centered advising to a population of fully online learners across multiple CHS degree programs. Through a range of fully virtual academic counseling and support strategies, the advisor monitors student progress, promotes academic success, and helps students navigate their academic pathways. The advisor collaborates closely with CHS faculty and staff, university partners, and student success teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality academic support that aligns with CHS's mission and the university's commitment to student achievement.

Position Salary Range:

  • $46,300 - $54,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • Provide proactive, student-centered virtual academic advising to online learners to support retention, academic success, and timely degree completion.

  • Monitor student progress using university systems and analytics tools; apply retention-focused strategies to address concerns and improve outcomes.

  • Collaborate with CHS faculty, staff, and university partners to deliver personalized student support.

  • Guide students through curriculum requirements and connect them with academic and university resources such as tutoring, counseling, career services, and success coaching.

  • Communicate effectively through virtual platforms, maintaining strong professional relationships and responding to student questions and concerns in a timely manner.

  • Escalate complex or urgent student issues following established college and university procedures.

  • Participate in virtual orientations, workshops, and recruitment or student success events as a representative of CHS.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by providing feedback on advising tools, processes, and student support practices.

  • Support implementation of advising policies, academic success initiatives, and other duties that enhance the online student experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience providing academic advising or student success services in a higher education setting, preferably with undergraduate or online student populations.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based advising practices, student development theory, and retention-focused strategies.

  • Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to support students and address a wide range of academic concerns.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain professional working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Experience using multiple advising and student support technologies (e.g., degree progress tools, CRM systems, appointment platforms, analytics tools) and the ability to quickly learn new systems.

  • Proven ability to self-motivate, manage workload independently, and stay organized in a fully remote work environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and comfort working in an environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Experience working with ASU systems and tools such as DARS, PeopleSoft, Salesforce, Retention Dashboard, eAdvisor, and critical tracking tools (preferred).

  • Knowledge of ASU's academic structure, programs, and resources, including familiarity with ASU Online.

  • Experience creating presentations and delivering information in group settings.

  • Ability to identify student needs, connect them with appropriate resources, and escalate complex issues as necessary.

  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear.

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator.

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts.

  • Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time.

  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.

  • Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses.

  • Ability to lift and transport up to 10 pounds.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds.

CHS research programs encompass basic, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of  health outcomes. CHS takes an interdisciplinary approach to address the complex systems that underpin health problems.
