Job Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Office is seeking an enthusiastic Academic Success Advisor to join our team in the Armstrong Hall Student Services Hub. The Armstrong Hall Student Services Hub provides first-year and new transfer student academic advising, programs to enhance student engagement, and career readiness services in one centralized location.

Under the supervision of a Director of Academic Services, the Academic Success Advisor is primarily responsible for developing relationships with a cohort of first-year students. The Academic Success Advisor supports student success efforts for their assigned cohort of first-year students utilizing a range of in-person and virtual methods including individual advising meetings (in-person, phone, and zoom), email, and first-year seminar course instruction. Other responsibilities include conducting initial advising for incoming first-year and transfer students.


Salary Range: $46,000 - $48,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

•    Provide personalized, intentional, and holistic advising support to new and first-year students to ensure successful transition to ASU and ongoing success as a student.
•    Teach multiple sections of a first-year student success course and provide associated academic advising support to those students.
•    Provide guidance and advice to students related to degree progression and completion, including but not limited to: exploring other majors, minors and certificates, extracurricular activities, study abroad programs, research, and internships.
•    Connect students with appropriate resources including, but not limited to: tutoring, coaching, counseling, and career services.
•    Work collaboratively with academic units and university offices services to provide individualized and timely student support and follow-up.
•    Identify challenges facing students, and offer appropriate support, and outreach to students who are experiencing challenges in multiple facets of their university experience.
•    Monitor first-year student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools including eAdvisor, DARS, and Salesforce.
•    Provide initial welcome and course registration support for new transfer students.
 

Desired Qualifications:

•    Evidence of a Master's Degree completed or in progress.
•    Experience teaching coursework or leading workshops for students in an educational environment.
•    Experience demonstrating sensitivity to needs of a diverse student population.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies.
•    Experience in applying the principles, techniques and methods of teamwork, compromise and collaboration to produce desired outcomes.
•    Experience in the use of internet-based research tools, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office computer applications.
•    Experience using student information systems such as PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and DARS.
•    Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies and methods.
•    Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, faculty and other interested parties.
•    Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities.
•    Evidence of effective communication skills.
•    Experience in interpreting student needs and determining when referral to other University resources is appropriate.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of academic programs, colleges, and departments university-wide.
 

Working Environment:

•    Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
•    Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
•    Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
•    Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
•    Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include resolving conflicts, coping with moderate stress levels, along with the requirements to complete tasks within set time constraints and frequently changing priorities.
•    Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
•    Requires some attendance at evening and weekend events.

Flexible work options:
Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
