Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Essential Duties:

  •  Provides 1:1 as well as group academic advising, recruitment/retention, and academic success support functions to students to ensue ongoing successful progress to completion of degree program.

  • Provides guidance to students on course selection, registration, and the use of degree tracking tools to monitor satisfactory academic progress towards graduation 

  • Provides Salesforce support to students seeking guidance on advising

  • Works closely with students to identify all academic options including but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides advice to students in selection of options best suited to goals, interests and skills. 

  • Monitors student academic progress and program effectiveness using a variety of technology-based tools; works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure academic success.

  • Working under limited or minimal supervision, handles problems, proactively provides guidance and advice to students.  Responds to student questions and concerns, works to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services, and utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.

  • Acts as primary liaison to connect students with academic personal resources including but not limited to tutoring, counseling and career services; provides follow-up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services.

  • Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support.

  • Utilizes collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, virtually and by phone; establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.  

  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in college level academic advising, including both online and campus-based students.

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

  • Experience working in a fast paced and high-volume advising unit.

  • Experience using student information computer systems and degree audits (i.e., PeopleSoft, DARS).

  • Experience using database programs (Analytics, Salesforce).

  • Experience in thinking critically to solve problems independently and as part of a group.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and theories in public and higher education and college advising.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and cloud-based video communication platforms (i.e. Zoom).

  • Experience assisting with special events (i.e. Fall Welcome, Commencement/Convocation).

  • Evidence of effective communication skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization.

  • Evidence of Master's degree in higher education or related area

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.

  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to; computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.

  • This position receives regular review of objectives by school administrator
