The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) seeks four Academic Success Advisors to join the Academic Strategy and Student Experience Team (ASSET). Reporting to a member of the ASSET leadership team and based on the Polytechnic and Tempe campuses, the Academic Success Advisor will play an important role in promoting student retention and supporting timely progress toward degree completion. Working within a collaborative, team-based model, Academic Success Advisors support students from admission through graduation using a range of virtual and in-person advising strategies and student success practices. The most effective advisors bring a combination of critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and, above all, a genuine commitment to student care and advocacy. Essential Duties
  • Advise undergraduate students pursuing degrees on campus or through ASU Online regarding university general studies, degree requirements, academic policies and procedures.
  • Update student records in DARS, PeopleSoft, and other applicable systems to accurately reflect student progress. 
  • Respond to student inquiries through Salesforce and other advising communication platforms in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist students in establishing academic and career goals and connect them with appropriate ASU resources to support their success. 
  • Collaborate regularly with university partners to ensure students receive accurate and consistent information regarding degree requirements and academic pathways. 
  • Meet with students through a variety of modalities, including in person, by phone, through e-mail, via Zoom, during classroom visits, and as part of orientation programs. 
  • Deliver presentations to students, families and the broader ASU community regarding transitional advising and the degree programs supported.
  • Participate in evening hours and occasional weekend assignments as needed to support student and program needs.
  • Support special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Experience working with general curricular elements and structures (e.g., courses, units, prerequisites, majors and minors, academic policies).
  • Experience assessing college transcripts/previous coursework and helping students understand attainable academic pathways and career possibilities.
  • Experience evaluating student/client needs and referring to relevant internal and external support resources.
  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving skills to identify and research individual needs, including development of strategies to successfully meet those needs.
  • Experience working with culturally varied communities and recognizing issues faced by underrepresented populations.
  • Working knowledge of special population advising (i.e., international students, first-year, transfer, etc.) in an educational setting at an institution of higher learning.
  • Experience navigating difficult conversations using compassionate listening, de-escalation techniques, and collaborative resolution development.
  • Ability to work both independently or within a complex structured team. 
  • Work from general instructions on standard job duties and specific directions/instructions on new assignments. 
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Working Environment
  • Days and Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., evenings and weekends may occasionally be required.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, phone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). 
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds (5%).
  • Hybrid work is an option for CISA employees. Hybrid arrangements allow employees to spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or Provost level approval is required.
