Job Description 
Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

Administer accommodations provided under the American with Disabilities Act as a member of Accessibility and Student Services. Provide an initial overview of procedures and available services for students with disabilities. Review and manage files to ensure accuracy and availability of documentation for students with disabilities. Provide assistive technology services and train students, as needed. Provide case management and data entry for students during intake appointments and other related services. Operate, manage, and track inventory of assistive technology equipment. Work cooperatively with campus IT staff to coordinate installation and maintenance of computer-based assistive technology. Coordinate and train students to utilize ASL remote services and provide reporting of services. Proctor students registered with accessibility services for testing accommodations. Provide note-taking and other assistive technology educational or accommodation service-related software, to include performance tracking. Maintain student database and prepare statistical reports, as necessary. Plan and coordinate study skills, time management, stress management, and mental health workshops each semester.

Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Required: Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities. Previous work-related experience with assistive support technologies. Considerable experience using student information system. Work related administrative experience. Previous work in an office environment.  Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of working with students with disabilities. Thorough knowledge and experience of the Americans with Disabilities Act Section 504 & 508 of Rehabilitation Act and its implications for the college student populations. Proven knowledge of providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. Comprehensive knowledge of various assistive technology tools. General knowledge of academic programs of study. Expanded knowledge of FERPA. Knowledgeable of accessibility standards and best practices including Web Accessibility Guidelines. Skills: Highly skilled in the operation of standard office equipment, computers/laptops, related software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the College and community. Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to: Assess and make appropriate referrals as necessary to students who present in crises. Utilize, and train students and faculty with assistive technology. Demonstrate comfort working with students with apparent and non-apparent disabilities. Prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in working with students with disabilities. Work independently or in a team environment. Work at all campus locations.
