Job Summary 
The Department of Pathology seeks an accounting manager to ensure organizational adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other accounting standards, as well as the timely preparation and review of all required regulatory filings. Advises on annual budget and prepares accounting reports for executive leadership. Reviews work submitted by accountants, and manages accounting close processes. Performs analysis on financials and accounting metrics for presentation to leadership. Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews. Broad knowledge of the field with proven leadership skills.

The department may choose to hire at management level M4 or M5 based on business need and candidate’s education and experience.

Responsibilities  | M4 | Senior Manager, Accounting Management (Job Code M21104)Second-level manager. Manages the activities of first-level managers and/or supervisors. Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.

M5 | Associate Director, Accounting Management (Job Code M21105)Third-level manager. Manages the activities of first-level and second-level managers and/or supervisors. Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 8 years of directly related work experience.

Key Responsibilities Responsible for all debt, asset, and investment accounting functions. Assists in financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Oversees the work of capital equipment and property accounting. Assists in year-end close and annual financial audit. Assists the preparation of the annual department budget. Regularly reviews all responsible processes for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications  | EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Senior Manager, Accounting Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.
Associate Director, Accounting Management: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 8 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences  | Preferences Experience in property, debt, and endowment and investment accounting. Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Candidates who who are CPA-eligible per the State of Utah Division of Occupational Licensing rules may also be considered. Understanding of Financial Accounting Standards Board or GASB rules and guidelines. Proven experience in process improvement and implementation.
