About the Role
As an Acquisition Editor, you will manage and expand a subject portfolio of books for the global academic and professional market. You will be assigned to one of our Physical Science, Life and Biological Science, Engineering, or Computing programs. This role requires experience in the STM market, strong analytical skills, and the ability to prospect for and collaborate with PhD-level authors. You will also contribute to our publication strategy by acquiring and publishing successful books with a digital-first focus.

Responsibilities
  • Identifying projects in line with strategy, preparing acquisition business cases and proposals, negotiating contracts, and acquiring over 25 new or revised book projects per year.
  • Developing and executing a 5-year subject portfolio strategy based on data and analytics to support wider business objectives.
  • Maintaining successful relationships with authors, editors, and advisers, providing excellent service to all stakeholders.
  • Working with colleagues in Production, Operations, and Commercial teams.
  • Ensure on-time and on-budget publication of titles while maintaining high-quality content.

Requirements
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Have experience in academic publishing for an international market, including peer and development review, publishing ethics, and trends in knowledge markets.
  • Demonstrate experience with global academic, professional, and post-graduate level customers in the English language STM market.
  • Possess excellent analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis.
  • International Collaboration: Ability to work independently and partner across teams internationally.
  • Have excellent communication skills: Excellent networking, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Display adaptability: Flexibility to adapt in a rapidly evolving organization.
