Job Summary  | Exciting position to develop and implement policies, programs and financial objectives for the University of Utah/Weber State University’s Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (RMCOEH). RMCOEH became Utah’s first statutorily established multi-university program in 2021. The RMCOEH has now developed additional close ties with Utah Valley University to operate the Utah Firefighter Cancer Screening Initiative. The Center works especially closely with 10 transdisciplinary Center Program Directors who hold faculty appointments in 4 University ofUtah departments and work closely with faculty and staff at both Universities to assure success of this prominent legislative initiative and partnership.

Position will act as a partner to Center leadership, responsible for accounting and finance, human resources, operations, strategic planning, data gathering and analysis, and overall administration. This position is to ensures continuity and quality customer service between University(ies) departments and community, including the RMCOEH’s Advisory Board. Key deliverables include annual reporting to internal and external audiences, including legislative and federal bodies, as well as all financial reporting.

Responsibilities  | 1. Oversees administration for the RMCOEH, including budget, human resources, and day-to-day center operations, including multi-university responsibilities as determined by RMCOEH leadership.

2. Serves as part of the RMCOEH management team. Collaborates and coordinates between units to ensure operational compliance and advance Center goals. Works with Center Director, Deputy Director, Chief Operations Officer, and 10 Program Directors to assure authority and functions of the center management continue during absences.

3. Develops an annual RMCOEH budget for approvals by both universities and oversees day-to-day financial operations. Provides financial reports to RMCOEH Advisory Board, the 2 university presidents and the Utah legislature. Authorizes the purchase and implementation of new technology, resources and equipment.

4. Oversees human resources for the RMCOEH, including recruitment, retention, staff management and performance evaluation, and direct staff supervision of RMCOEH staff.

5. Leads and directs RMCOEH staff in accomplishing all stated tasks/duties in this job description as well as duties as assigned by RMCOEH leadership.

6. Facilitates the marketing and development team’s functions. Ensures timely deliverables by the team, including student and resident appointments.

7. Facilitates responsiveness and smooth functioning of the partnership between University of Utah and Weber State University, including reporting to the offices of the Vice President for Health Sciences and Provost, respectively. Facilitates program directors at both universities’ undergraduate and graduate programs optimally functional for students and residents.

8. Facilitates responsiveness and smooth functioning of the new partnership between U. Utah and Utah Valley University, including reporting to the UVU Fire Rescue Academy, Labor Commission and Legislature. Facilitates coordination of the Utah Firefighter Cancer Screening Program’s components at both UVU and UU.

9. Facilitates and coordinates annual reports by Center leadership to CDC/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Responsively addresses NIOSH requests.

10. Implements and administers new and existing RMCOEH programs and services to internal and external customers. Evaluates center and program effectiveness.

11. Participates in the development and interpretation of RMCOEH polices to ensure compliance with the Universities’ policies and regulatory requirements. May authorize exceptions to RMCOEH policy and procedures related to assigned departments and universities. Ensures compliance with Federal and state regulations.

12. Establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet RMCOEH short- and long-term goals. Assists in setting RMCOEH short and long-term goals, including to meet universities’, legislative, regional and national occupational health and safety needs.

13. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow through to ensure quality customer service.

14. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., businesses, unions, trade organizations, insurers, workers, US government, state of Utah, region 8 states, and general public).
