Eastern Oregon University (EOU) – Oregon’s Rural University! is currently accepting applications for an
Admissions Counselor to work in the Admissions Department. This is a 12-month, Full-Time, 1.0 FTE, full-benefits eligible position that reports directly to the Director of Admissions.
Admission counselors are responsible for representing Eastern Oregon University to multiple constituencies, including prospective students, families, schools, and community contacts. The incumbent develops and maintains recruitment initiatives to meet overall university enrollment goals.
The Admission Counselor executes and assesses programs within assigned geographic territories, present to large and small groups, plan recruitment travel, monitor recruitment expenses, and provides support the campus visit program. The primary goals of this position are: Recruits prospective students from key territories. Advises and counsels prospective students about EOU undergraduate experience. Represents and recruits prospective students for EOU at various events. Builds a stronger presence and relationships with prospective students. Explains Admission policies and next steps to students. Provides outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities | Executes and assesses programs within assigned geographic territories, present to large and small groups, plan recruitment travel, monitor recruitment expenses, and provides support the campus visit program. The primary focus of this position is to recruit prospective students from key territories. Responsible for researching assigned territories and addressing the needs of the students. Is the main point of contact for high school or transfer students from those areas that are seeking an undergraduate degree from Eastern Oregon University. Knowledge of non-profit/regionally accredited undergraduate student experience, program offerings, faculty and other information necessary for competently directing questions and advising potential students and parents. Incumbents must have taken an active role in student activities and campus life and should be familiar with current admission requirements, degree programs, financial aid programs, student activities, athletics and transfer programs.
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. One (1) to three (3) years of experience working in education or with high school and community college age students. Excellent one-on-one communications skills in person, over the phone, and email . One (1) to two (2) years of focus on providing quality customer service. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity. Must be able to work in a team environment and be self-motivated. Possess strong organizational skills and be able to work on multiple tasks concurrently. Valid state driver’s license with responsible driving record.
Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire including presenting required identity documents. Eastern Oregon University does not sponsor applicants for employment visas.
Preferred Qualifications | One (1) to two (2) years of demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills. This position requires the capacity to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Master’s Degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
