Job Description
The Admissions Advisor serves as a key point of contact for prospective students interested in SU’s part-time online degree and certificate programs through SU Global. This role advises and supports undergraduate & graduate applicants through the admissions process, from initial inquiry through enrollment, delivering best-in-class, personalized service at all touchpoints. This role conducts transfer credit evaluations, assesses applicant admissibility, and ensures all required application materials are submitted and reviewed in accordance with University policies.

Working collaboratively with internal admissions teams, academic units, and external recruiting partners, the Advisor helps develop and implement recruitment strategies that generate, manage, and convert prospective student inquiries. This role includes analyzing applicant materials, maintaining accurate records, and providing white-glove support through complex admissions pathways, including matriculated and non-matriculated options. This role coordinates monthly information sessions and advises prospective students across existing and new online programs. This position plays a critical role in advancing enrollment goals while delivering an exceptional, student-centered admissions experience. This position is expected to work on-campus to collaborate in real time with teammates and campus partners, troubleshoot complex admissions challenges, and provide mentoring and knowledge sharing that strengthens individual and team performance. Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in recruiting, admissions, or related customer service field required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong institutional knowledge, community engagement, and collaboration with undergraduate and graduate recruitment staff based within the university’s academic units.
  • Knowledge of university admissions policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships with local agencies, vendors, etc.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with higher education academic practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with students; ability to problem-solve and liaise with the broader University community on behalf of students, in-depth knowledge of the University rules, regulations and degree requirements; ability to manage confidential records in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other technology used in student service delivery.
  • Current knowledge of social media trends/platforms.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills/capabilities.
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate in an in-person team environment; comfortable with peer-to-peer problem solving, real-time feedback, rapid workflow iteration in a fast-paced, startup-style setting, and contributing to a shared learning culture. 
Responsibilities
  • Serve as an admissions advising point of contact for prospective students interested in SU’s part-time online degree & certificate programs, providing guidance from initial inquiry through enrollment.
  • Conduct thorough admissions consultations tailored to each prospective student’s academic needs.
  • Advise and support undergraduate and graduate applicants through the admissions process, ensuring a high-quality, student-centered experience.
  • Complete unofficial transfer credit evaluations and assess applicant admissibility in alignment with University policies and standards, ensuring uniform credit awards.
  • Review/analyze application materials to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to admission decisions.
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies to generate, manage, and convert prospective student inquiries.
  • Collaborate in person with internal admissions teams and academic units to troubleshoot complex student issues in real time, share knowledge across cases, maintain consistency in advising practices, and actively mentor teammates to build individual and team effectiveness.
  • Maintain regular in-person availability to teammates, colleagues, and supervisors to resolve questions, address student concerns, and keep workflows moving efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate inquiry and application records within admissions and CRM systems.
  • Provide timely, personalized communication to guide prospects through multiple admissions pathways, including matriculated & non-matriculated options.
  • Utilize Slate, OnBase, and other systems.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and information requests.
  • Assist with recruitment for Syracuse University online degree programs and serve as an ambassador for the Office of Online Student Success and SU Global at recruitment events, information sessions, and presentations. This includes a presence at admissions sessions, military briefings and external engagements which may require travel.
  • Coordinate and participate in monthly virtual information sessions and other outreach activities to support recruitment efforts.
  • Advise prospective students across existing and new online programs supported by SU Global.
  • Analyze reports to help inform enrollment strategies.
  • Partner with other entities to address issues of enrollment and retention, help forecast upcoming terms and program interests.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with the university’s undergraduate and graduate recruiters in the schools and colleges.
  • Act as their liaison when interacting with prospective students, making recommendations and referrals as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
