Job Description
The Recruitment Specialist/Admissions Counselor for Syracuse University College of Law works within the College of Law’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid team and will participate in on and off campus recruitment events, and conduct counseling appointments for students interested in the Syracuse Law programs.
Recruitment travel is expected, primarily in the Fall, to various law and graduate fairs and LSAC forums. This position will be responsible for responding to any communication from students encountered at these recruitment events and other inquiries from prospective students and other interested students as directed by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid staff.
This role is also responsible for initial review and recommendations on JD degree applications as assigned by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid staff.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Syracuse University College of Law’s admissions process and application requirements is preferred.
  • Experience with counseling or advising students requested.
  • Experience in marketing or sales is helpful.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable engaging people from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds.
  • Must be able to work independently, be punctual, and dependably meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for domestic travel is essential.
Responsibilities
  • JD Application Review – Read, evaluate, and make initial review decisions on JD degree applications to determine acceptance.
  • Timely review of prospective student JD applications using a high level of skill, expertise and judgment and determine the need for further review of applicant’s Character and Fitness for the study of law as well as the necessity for applications to be sent for additional review by the law faculty admissions committee. 
  • Recruitment Events – Recruitment travel to various law and graduate fairs and LSAC forums.
  • Represent the College of Law at various law school recruitment fairs, forums, and other events, including group presentations.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of recruitment events including Prospective Student Open House, Admitted Students Days, off-campus receptions and dinners, and other events. 
  • Admissions Counseling – Meet individually with prospective students and families to answer questions about Syracuse Law programs, joint degree opportunities, merit scholarship process, etc. Provide follow-up and student connections after visit.
  • Other duties as assigned.
