Job Summary
The Admissions Counselor serves as one of the primary contacts for prospective students and their families, school counselors, advisors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. This position is responsible for recruiting, selecting and yielding undergraduate students to various programs at Drexel University.
The Admissions Counselor interacts with prospective students through individual meetings, information sessions, and campus events to build relationships, answer questions, and explain the benefits of attending Drexel University. Responsibilities include managing an inquiry and applicant pool, reviewing applications (both domestic and international, first year and transfer applicants) and making admissions decisions within a designated application pool, working with applicants regarding missing materials, and managing the relationship from point of application through enrollment. The Admissions Counselor also counsels accepted students through the enrollment process to facilitate a smooth transition to Drexel.
The Admissions Counselor travels extensively during peak recruitment periods, locally and nationally, and participates in on-campus recruitment events, which includes evening and weekend hours.
This is a hybrid position, working on-campus approximately 3 days a week.
Essential Functions
- Recruits prospective first year and transfer students by visiting high schools and attending in-person and virtual college fairs and community events in a designated territory
- Conducts informational sessions and prospective student meetings
- Serves as the primary contact to prospective students and their family, school counselors, advisors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process
- Creates and maintains professional relationships with school counselors, advisors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process
- Develops relationships with prospective students through multiple mediums, including individual appointments, telephone, email, social media, and video/virtual chat
- Works with campus partners to disseminate necessary information to prospective students
- Prepares, maintains, and distributes regular and ad hoc inquiry and applicant reports to keep the team up to date on the status of the applicant pool
- Manages the inquiry and applicant flow to ensure students submit all necessary documents for the evaluation and financial aid process
- Reviews and evaluates first year and transfer applications to make admissions decisions or recommendations
- Travels significantly during the fall and spring recruitment seasons, locally and nationally
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Ability to travel up to 8 weeks during Fall recruitment and up to 4 weeks during Spring recruitment, local and domestic
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to be enthusiastic, people-oriented, and enjoy working with various audiences
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization skills
- Valid Driver’s License
Compensation
This position is classified as Exempt, grade H. Compensation for this grade ranges from $39,440 to $59,160 per year. The offered rate will vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
