Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:

The AI & Security Engineer serves as a strategic technical lead within Athletics IT, responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of AI-enabled solutions. This role identifies, designs, and implements practical workflows—including copilots, custom agents, and software integrations—tailored to enhance departmental operations.

By balancing workflow analysis with rigorous security protocols, the Engineer ensures the responsible adoption of AI while maintaining the department's Risk Score and security posture. The incumbent acts as a critical bridge between departmental stakeholders and technical infrastructure teams to translate operational needs into secure, scalable, and governed AI solutions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Investigates new and different ways to increase overall security through improvements to existing solutions or implementation of new technology or programmatic solutions.
Detects internet attacks and attackers.
Researches new techniques and ensures that appropriate enhancements are applied to the campus network.
Provides IT security solutions and consultation to university departments and other units within the division.
Provides assistance to academic and research programs involving cybersecurity and advise faculty and students on operational best security practices.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in IT Security.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of developing and implementing security projects and programs.

Knowledge of the operating principles of network security devices such as intrusion detection and prevention systems, firewalls, endpoint detection and response tools, vulnerability management solutions, log management and security information event management systems, security automation tools.

Knowledge of a scripting language such as Python, Perl, or PowerShell.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in the use of Google Workspace products. 

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.

Additional Job Details

Preferences: Experience working within a fast-paced, high-volume educational or collegiate institution.

Physical Demands: The scope of the position frequently requires evening, weekend, and holiday work (Non-standard work hours). While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices such as telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc.; Constantly moves about the facility and event site before, during and after events to service clients; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information. Standing, walking, kneeling/crouching, balancing and lifting up to 25 pounds.
