Edtech.com's Summary

Harvard University is hiring an AI Solutions Architect to connect the FAS community with fast-moving AI capabilities. The architect leads opportunity discovery, problem definition, and stakeholder alignment, then shapes the overall solution design. Working as a pair with an AI Solutions Engineer, the architect contributes hands-on from prototype through product delivery while the engineer owns detailed engineering, deployment, and operations.

Highlights
  • Engage faculty, researchers, and staff across FAS to identify AI opportunities and define the outcomes they want.
  • Lead requirements gathering and tool selection, designing solutions that follow established patterns and University data, security, and privacy policy.
  • Scope problem statements and lead rapid prototyping with AI platforms, APIs, and low-code or no-code tools so stakeholders see working software early.
  • Assess the sustainability of each solution, including cost, security, maintenance, and service-owner capacity, and define readiness and acceptance criteria.
  • Own the governance relationship across security, privacy, accessibility, data governance, and research computing to win approvals that turn prototypes into supported services.
  • Document architectures, decisions, and trade-offs, and track the evolving AI landscape to make evidence-based recommendations on readiness, risk, cost, and fit.
  • Partner with the HUIT AI Innovation team to evaluate emerging capabilities and prototype ideas around user value.
  • Requires seven years of post-secondary education or relevant work experience, with 5+ years in software development or solutions architecture strongly preferred.
  • Strongly prefer 2+ years of hands-on work with AI/ML platforms and LLMs, including LLM integration, retrieval and grounding, prompt design, and evaluation.
  • Work a hybrid schedule with occasional on-campus presence to support production systems and collaborate with HUIT and FAS teams.

  • Scope problem statements and lead rapid prototyping (AI platforms, APIs, low-code/no-code), partnering with the Engineer to put working software in front of stakeholders early.
  • Assess sustainability - including cost, security, maintenance, service-owner capacity - and define readiness and acceptance criteria.
  • Own the governance relationship (security, privacy, accessibility, data-governance, research computing) and secure the approvals that turn prototypes into supported services.
  • Communicate across all levels of technical fluency and lead stakeholder alignment throughout delivery.
  • Document architectures, decisions, and trade-offs so others can maintain and extend the work.
  • Track the evolving AI landscape and lead evidence-based recommendations on readiness, capability, risk, cost, and fit.
  • Contribute hands-on to implementation, testing, demos, and production transition, with the Engineer primary on detailed engineering and operations.
  • Partner with HUIT’s AI Innovation team to evaluate emerging capabilities and lead user-value prototyping.
