Job Summary | The AI Solutions Developer designs, develops, and deploys advanced natural language processing solutions using SDLC to enhance UTA’s digital services and academic operations. This role brings innovative AI capabilities to institutional workflows by leveraging expertise in Python, Azure AI Foundry, and machine learning to build scalable, user-centric AI applications. The developer collaborates with cross-functional teams to optimize AI-driven interactions for students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Designs AI-powered prototypes and solutions that improve university operations and learning environments. Builds and implements applications that utilize machine learning, natural language processing, and other AI technologies. Supports, maintains, and refines AI systems to ensure reliability, scalability, and effective performance across university use cases. Develops, trains, and fine-tunes machine learning models for a variety of university applications. Conducts experiments to evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics and validation techniques around model compression & efficiency, model fine-tuning, regularization and optimization metrics. Analyzes results and implement improvements to enhance model accuracy, efficiency, and overall effectiveness. Integrates AI components into existing systems. Optimizes system performance for reliability, scalability, and maintainability. Conducts through testing to validate functionality, performance, and overall user experience. Troubleshoots and resolves issues in both development and production environments. Develops solutions throughout the full software development life cycle on technical specifications. Applies industry best practices and appropriate toolsets when designing and implementing solutions. Assists in creating clear, comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions. Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams-including OIT, data custodians, developers, and product managers-to ensure AI projects align with organizational goals. Stays current with emerging AI technologies and incorporates relevant advancements into solutions. Ensures all AI solutions adhere to federal, state, and university policies and legal requirements regarding accessibility, privacy, and ethics standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Software Engineering, a related field. Three (3) years of experience in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning development with a focus on Natural Language Processing and application development, or seven (7) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, or related field. Five (5) years of experience in AI engineering and solutions development. Experience with cloud-based AI deployment (Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform). Professional certifications in AI, NLP, machine learning, or cloud technologies. Experience with Azure AI Foundry and cloud integration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Advanced NLP techniques (text classification, entity recognition, sentiment analysis). Proficiency in Python and Natural Language Processing libraries (spaCy, NLTK, Hugging Face). Machine learning fundamentals and model evaluation. API integration and version control (Git). Prototyping, testing, and refining NLP-driven applications. Applying human-centered design principles to AI solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement. Creating technical documentation and user guides. Analytical thinking and creative problem-solving. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
