Description
Macmillan is seeking a skilled Financial Analyst to support our Trade Finance team in business management and financial reporting. Responsibilities for this role include monthly reporting, forecasting, and performing ad-hoc financial analysis, working closely with both Trade Finance and the publishing divisions. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills and an interest in book publishing.

What you'll do:
The role reports to the VP, Trade Finance, with a dotted line to the Sr Financial Analyst, and will be involved in all aspects related to business management and financial analysis, including but not limited to:

  • Financial Planning and Reporting: Collaborate with Trade Finance and publishing partners to assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts, from sales down to operating income.
  • Monthly Reporting: Update monthly sales and expense reports and analyze results against the most recent budget and forecast, providing variance explanations and insights.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly close presentations to publishing divisions and bi-annual board meetings.
  • Review expense coding and assist Editorial, Marketing, and Publicity teams as needed in managing costs.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis and modeling to support strategic decision making.

What you'll bring:
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across the organization are essential.
  • Knowledge of automated financial reporting systems (especially SAP reporting tools, e.g. AO) a plus.

Ideal Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in the publishing or media industry
    Strong proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis using Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, XLOOKUP, financial functions)
  • Bachelor’s degree (finance, economics, data analytics, or related field preferred)

This role will have an annual salary of $65,000 - $75,000
