Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary | The Argyros College Graduate Student-Academic Advising Assistant is a key facilitatordedicated to supporting all aspects of the undergraduate student developmentalexperience and helping each ACBE undergraduate student become capable ofnavigating the university landscape. Graduate assistants are central to providingguidance, information, and support with the intent of enabling undergraduate students tomake informed decisions and engage with available resources to maximize learningoutcomes and pre-professional development. Working in partnership with stakeholdersthroughout the University Community, graduate student assistants are advocates integralto the development of the undergraduate student learning, and growth. The ArgyrosCollege Graduate Student-Academic Advising Assistant is a professional who willengage with students to:
• Provide guidance to facilitate learning, goal setting and planning;
• Build understanding of campus values, policies, procedures and resources;
• Promptly answer academic related inquiries through both digital and in-personcommunication.
Responsibilities
Supports academic advisors with promptly answering undergraduate students questions via email daily and during drop-in hours several times a week. Communicates academic policies and provide guidance. Uses principles of developmental academic advising to promote academic, career and life goals to support student retention, timeliness to degree, academic success, and intellectual and personal development. Works directly with academic advisors to assess and develop support services for undergraduate students, guided by national best practices as well as university and college/school policies; Understands and communicates to undergraduate students the implications of the program plan and degree progress, and particularly the impact of changing academic plans to these goals. Understands, interprets, and enforces University policies while exploring academic and professional options. Advises undergraduate students in business, accounting, and economics majors and minors, and communicates relevant information from the College. Aids in retention of undergraduate students from first-year to graduation; regularly advise undergraduate students on academic policies and procedures, scheduling, degree requirements, academic possibilities (majors, minors, and choosing appropriate electives); Mentors undergraduate students who are placed on academic probation to ensure pathways back to good academic standing; provide timely and accurate resources for students to successfully navigate towards academic degree completion and other defined personal, academic, and professional goals. Supports the undergraduate student’s transitions into college. Serves as an agent of referral for undergraduate students providng them with information on accessing University resources and campus agencies to help with personal problems and/or crisis management as necessary. Manages students during drop-in hours and answers general questions during peak times. Works with academic advisors to keep student communications efficiently organized and quickly answered. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications | Chapman University Argyros College Graduate Student
Desired Qualifications | A Chapman graduate student in ACBE who completed their bachelor’s degree through Chapman’s Argyros College of Business and Economics, or has a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
