About the Role
We’re seeking a temporary, full-time Science Assessment Content Creator with experience in assessment item writing in line with Next Generation Science Standards and State standards to join our or learning design team. This diverse group of professionals includes learning scientists, learning designers, content creators, and standards aligners. Our learning design team works closely with our AI & Data Science department to create a science learning experience for all learners to be prepared for high school science and to be ready for summative science assessments.
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Assessment Learning Design, you will write design rigorous formative and summative-like assessment contents for BrainPOP Science under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Assessment Design.
This role is temporary, approximately 40 hours (standard business hours) per week for five months.
In this role, you will
- Write and iterate formative and summative assessment items that drive BrainPOP products to build readiness and proficiency in Science and cultivate deeper learning for ALL students
- Follow BrainPOPs assessment guidelines and industry best practices and standards in assessment content development
- Work closely with learning designers, assessment designers, learning scientists, efficacy researchers, and engineers to ensure that students are working toward achieving learning objectives
- Work with product managers, project managers, product designers, and user experience researchers to help architect, plan, and prioritize improvements and iterations to help manage stakeholder expectations and feedback
- Cultivate a strong collaborative culture while working with designers, developers, and engineers
- Manage timelines and expectations for content delivery, including coordination across internal and external stakeholders
You Have
- Proven experience with writing formative and summative science assessment itemss for middle school digital learning/assessment solutions
- Strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and State standards and current summative assessments in science
- Science teaching experience in K-8 (classroom face-to-face or online)
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to work across groups and provide and implement feedback at nearly every phase of implementation
- Organized, with a strong attention to detail, and able to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Solid writing and communication skills
On your resume
- Undergraduate degree in Science, Science Education or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in writing designing formative and summative Science assessment items ins a digital learning/assessment solutions
- Ability to work within an agile and iterative creation process
- 2+ years of K-8 Science teaching experience, preferably middle school grades
- Familiarity with summative science assessment approaches in Science assessment.
The starting salary for this role is between $30.00- $35.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. For all other countries, we have competitive pay bands based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted.
