General Job Description  | This is a managerial position responsible for directing a service-oriented and comprehensive academic program for all assigned student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules, policies and regulations. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services.

Essential Job Functions 
1. Mentors, counsels, and guides students regarding interests, aptitudes, abilities, and other personal characteristics.
2. Guides and directs the development of student-athlete orientation, retention, and completion initiatives.
3. Assists coaches, student-athletes, and recruits with university requirements and individual program requirements, including applicability of transfer credits, in a timely and professional manner.
4. Monitors progress toward degree requirements and continuing eligibility for assigned student-athletes.
5. Assists with submitting NCAA waivers and appeals.
6. Organizes study hall for all student-athletes and creates daily study hall reports and weekly progress reports for the assigned coaching staff
.7. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned employees and leads staff meetings.
8. Coordinates and monitors priority registration for student-athletes.
9. Works with the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services to design and implement a wide range of instructional activities, materials, programs, services, and strategies for use with individuals, small groups, and/or department.
10. Interprets academic regulations and serves as a resource for students, faculty, parents, and athletics staff.
11. Assists with academic planning and enrollment for summer school fifth year.
12. Maintains a viable working relationship with athletic administrators, coaches, faculty, university support staff, and parents by contacting and interacting frequently with academic advisors and student service departments to access the academic progress/status of the student-athletes.
13. Communicates frequently with coaching staff and academic advisors, apprising them of academic progress by maintaining individual performance records and preparing periodic reports.
14. Participates in continued education, professional development, and training, including active participation in NCAA-sponsored seminars, conference meetings, applicable conventions and academic services education.
15. Assists with hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling student workers for tutorial services.

Non-Essential Job Functions
1. Adheres to all applicable NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations.
2. Serves on university committees as requested.
3. Attends university, conference, NCAA and other organizational meetings as assigned.
4. Works outside normal office hours and weekends as required.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the conference and the NCAA.
3. Knowledge of developmental academic advising, retention management, and/or instructional strategies effective for college-age students.
4. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
5. Organizational skill in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
6. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions.
7. Ability to acquire and maintain knowledge of university curriculum and degree requirements and to interpret them in the context of individual student needs.
8. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
9. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
10. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
11. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
12. Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their commitment to the institution and each other.
13. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
14. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
15. Ability to train and supervise others.
16. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Physical Demands  |
Required Education  | Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Required Experience and Training  | Two years of related experience is required. Experience with NCAA intercollegiate athletics is required. Supervisory experience is required. Candidates who do not meet the experience requirement, but have a Master’s degree in a related field may also be considered on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Experience in intercollegiate athletic academic support, student services or instruction is preferred. Experience working with individuals from various academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds is preferred. Experience with NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics is preferred. Experience with higher education and intercollegiate athletics software such as Teamworks, Navigate, and Banner is preferred.
