Job Description
Reporting to the Supervisory, Capital Project Manager (SPM), the Assistant Capital
Project Manager (APM) will assist the SPM and Capital Project Managers (PM) with leading the execution of multiple assigned capital outlay projects from conception through completion using a variety of contracting methods. Projects range from moderate to advanced difficulty and complexity. The APM will assist the SPM and PMs with the management and coordination of the project team (Architects/Engineers, consultants, contractors, stakeholders, etc.) to ensure design and construction optimizes university program goals, while conforming to the projectâs established criteria for scope, cost, schedule and quality. The APM will also assist the SPM and PMs with managing assigned projects and coordinating the involvement of all participants in the design, value engineering, document review, construction, occupancy, close out, warranty, and financial management processes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâs degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, or Building Construction; OR training and work experience that demonstrates knowledge of the industry OR that equates to a Bachelorâs degree.
Working knowledge of site/building design and construction processes.
Must have proficiency with current computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Must have a valid driverâs license.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively, with a wide range of individuals in a diverse environment.
Ability to interpret design/construction documents.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of construction project delivery methods.
Knowledge of construction management software (MS Project, Bluebeam, Primavera, BIM/Revit, LaserFiche, etc.)
Previous construction experience in a higher education setting.
Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM).
