Assistant Controller

The Impact you Will Have:
The Assistant Controller at Crucial Learning will have a significant impact on the organization by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. This role is vital in maintaining robust internal controls and compliance with regulatory standards. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, preparing financial statements, and coordinating audits. By providing critical financial insights and fostering a culture of fiscal responsibility, the Assistant Controller will contribute to the company’s strategic growth and operational efficiency.
What You’ll Do:
- Financial Operations – Assist with strategizing the process and execution of the company’s financial operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, all journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing in the company’s accounting system -NetSuite.
- Publish Financials – Work closely with the controller to manage the process of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings of the Company’s financial accounts. Study the operational closing process and implement operational changes to improve the timeliness and accuracy of the process.
- Financial Controls – help develop best practice financial controls to ensure strong governance around all financial matters of the Company including banking & treasury operations, financial reporting, and payables.
- Financial Reviews & Audits – Engage and manage third party accountants to provide Reviews or Audits of the Company’s financial statements.
- Taxes & Regulatory Compliance – Assist with the company’s efforts to understand all applicable tax jurisdictions and file appropriate Company tax returns.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis- Participate in reviews of published financial reports and provide insight into changes and variations from plan.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, master’s degree preferred.
- CPA with 3-5 years of experience as an accountant or finance professional at a professional accounting firm or operating company.
- Experience managing a small team is preferred.
- Experience developing and enforcing appropriate financial controls and corporate governance policies.
- Proven track record of delivering consistent and accurate monthly financial close operations and financial reporting packages.
- Thorough understanding and practical experience with GAAP financial standards (FASB and IASB).
- Proficient with accounting software (NetSuite preferred), Avatax, office applications, and presentation software. Strong MS Office skills, Advanced skills with Excel
