Assistant Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff Full Description

Position Summary: 
Serve as a member of the School of Law's leadership team, report directly to the Dean, and work in partnership with the Dean, his cabinet, and leaders across NYU and other institutions to set strategy, establish metrics, drive strategic decision-making, and ensure results. Track progress in internal strategic planning and initiatives. Marshal appropriate resources and develop and implement policy objectives, strategies, and operating plans for various school-wide initiatives. Act as close advisor to the Dean. Draft significant internal communications and ensure the effectiveness of the internal communication processes of the School and between the School and other NYU offices as appropriate. Serve as the Dean's designate to other Deans, NYU's President, Provost, as well as trustees, faculty, students, and other audiences. Manage staff, operations, and budget for the Dean’s Office.

Qualifications: 
Required Education:
Juris Doctorate (J.D.)

Required Experience:
Must have a minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility in academic administration, government or comparable setting and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have prior experience with operational and staff supervision.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent discretion; able to maintain confidentiality. Ability to develop, implement and interpret policies and procedures. Excellent organizational, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Strong research, writing and presentation skills and the ability to communicate sensitive information diplomatically both verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a multi-constituency environment. Ability to lead diverse, inter-departmental initiatives and manage and prioritize complex projects. Ability to forge partnerships, build relationships, and garner support from community and external constituencies to ensure that people and departments work together smoothly. Advanced proficiency of database and spreadsheet software and other programs.

Additional Information: 
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $150,000.00 to USD $200,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
