Department Summary
The College of Science at the University of North Texas consists of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Data Analytics & Statistics and the interdisciplinary programs Teach North Texas, BioDiscovery Institute, and Advanced Environmental Research Institute. The college offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in science and mathematics, currently serving more than 4,000 majors. Our faculty are world-class researchers in science, mathematics, and data analytics. The college faculty and staff work together to provide excellent support to our students in their academic education and professional development.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for assisting College of Science researchers with postaward, uniform guidance, and local spending compliance. Serving as a liaison between researchers, department staff, and the Office of Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) regarding sponsored project spending at the post award stage. Supervising college staff that assists researchers with award spending. Various types of budgetary activities that requires similar skill sets.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Research administration work experience. Working knowledge of sponsor requirements, systems and forms, as well as Research Services forms and processes, i.e., GRAMS, Current and Pending, Routing, and Cost Shares. Knowledge of DoD, DOE, NASA, NIST, DARPA, NSF and other funding agencies relevant to the disciplines served. Working knowledge of UNT systems and forms related to budgeting, procurement and payroll and application to both grant and nongrant processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Three to five years of experience working in post award administration.
Job Duties
Oversees compliance of post award sponsored research financial activities within the College of Science, including financial compliance within granting agency regulations, budget reconciliation, and project close out. Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of the college post award team. Reconciles sponsored project budgets and meets with externally funded faculty regarding budget status, project burn rate, and planned spending. Reviews sponsored project deficit reports from GCA and works with faculty and staff to identify causes and resolve deficits in an appropriate and timely manner. Coordinates closing of sponsored projects with researchers, departmental staff, and GCA. Also collaborates with GCA during audits, as requested. Develops, prepares, and regularly reviews procedures and best practices for the College of Sciences post award activities based on uniform guidance, including training of college faculty and staff on sponsored projects post award issues. Gathers, analyzes, and presents information on research spending activities in the college, including preparing reports to help faculty with post award spending. Keep current on job relevant professional information by attending professional development opportunities which could include internal workshops, external opportunities for training, conferences, and professional memberships Prepare Ad hoc reports for Dean/Associate Deans (such as monthly award and proposal reports based on GCA published data, award reports, etc.). Maintain productive working relationships with pre and post award staff in the Office of Grants and Contracts Administration and within the Associate Deans office Perform other duties as assigned.
