I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary: | University Advancement is seeking an Assistant Director of Development, Corporate Relations who reports to the Executive Director of Corporate Relations.
University Advancement is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW’s mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Corporate Relations supports the development and implementation of the university’s corporate fundraising strategy and goals. The position is responsible for identifying, soliciting and closing corporate sponsorships for programs and events across the institutions as well as developing and executing corporate fundraising strategies for selected initiatives within the GW schools.
This position works closely with the Corporate Relations team on developing corporate fundraising strategies for selected initiatives within their portfolio of schools. The Assistant Director may be assigned to particular projects and/or initiatives depending upon university needs and priorities. This role focuses on initiating, building, and sustaining mutually beneficial relationships with corporations that have interests in alignment with the university’s mission. Identifies opportunities for sponsorship and meets with faculty/program managers/Advancement staff to develop appropriate strategies for outreach. An overview of duties includes the following:
Develops and implements corporate fundraising strategies for selected initiatives for GW schools and units in collaboration with other members of the Corporate Relations team. Creates prospect lists, makes outreach to prospects, secures meetings, makes solicitations and closes gifts. Develops and implements long-term cultivation and stewardship strategies for corporate prospects to help expand the network of corporate partners for GW. Collaborates with academic leads and the communications team on developing sponsorship packages, one-pagers, etc. Maintains proper documentation of fundraising activities, including visits, solicitations, correspondence, strategies and proposals.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are not logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: | Applicants should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be creative, collaborative and strategic in the approach to corporate engagement. The Assistant Director will be expected to demonstrate considerable initiative, independence and creativity to manage projects and develop new methods and techniques to secure corporate sponsors for events and programs and execute corporate fundraising strategies for selected initiatives across the university. Candidates should exhibit the highest level of customer service and be able to communicate effectively (both in writing and verbally) with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
Desired qualifications include the following: Understanding of, and experience in, corporate relations, corporate philanthropy and/or corporate affairs in an academic setting Specific experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding sponsorship from corporations Strong understanding of the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to the identification, cultivation, closure and stewardship of corporate prospects Experience developing sponsorship collateral Excellent organization, communications and interpersonal skills Strong commitment to quality of service Skilled in translating concepts into donor-driven strategies Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
