 I. JOB OVERVIEW 
Job Description Summary:  | The School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) at George Washington University is seeking an Assistant Director, HHF & R to head the Department of Health, Human Function & Rehabilitation Sciences. This position directs the operational activities of the doctor of physical therapy, doctor of occupational therapy and the doctor of health sciences in Leadership in education & clinical practice programs. This individual provides oversight for all the administrative work of the department including supervision of staff; coordinates functions with outside agencies or other University departments; develops proposals for new projects and prepares a variety of reports; collects, collates, and synthesizes data related to department outcomes. Coordinates with finance teams and faculty affairs. Provides direction for the operational activities at the 2000 Pennsylvania Health Sciences and Watergate sites.

Responsibilities Include: Serves as an extension of the Chair for all operational activities including administration, resources allocations, space and facility planning and maintenance, non-academic activities associated with new program development Supervises the administrative staff for clinical placement/contracts, academic support, enrollment services, finance and departmental business operations Manages and oversees timelines for required department activities in order to comply with external requirements and internal policies and procedures Prepares variety of memoranda and correspondence designed to effect action or publicize departmental and program activities Researches and develops proposals for enhancing program portfolio Conducts analyses and tracks program outcomes and performance Manages marketing and communication services in coordination with University-level departments. Manages policies and procedural enhancements to optimize departmental workflows. Creates operational processes as necessitated by new partnership arrangements. Partners with University Human Resources and Faculty Affairs to manage faculty and staff hiring cycles. Collaborates with Finance to secure resources and ensure departmental operational requirements are met. Exercises accountability for adjunct faculty and student worker payment systems. Oversees the integrity of budget reports, expenditure reconciliation, and extramural grant funding. Manages graduation clearance and executive events in collaboration with Health Sciences administration. Directs admissions and provides specialized student advising for the Doctor of Health Sciences program. Negotiates and manages contractual arrangements for departmental leased space. Serves as the primary liaison for communications with external stakeholders on behalf of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:  | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  | Master’s degree or the equivalent experience in an appropriate area of specialization, preferred. Educational preparation and experience to support research, data analysis, and report writing Strong written and analytical skills. Experience in academic administration with a track record of managing projects and/or operational activity of a broad range of administrative tasks in an academic environment like student advising, recruitment, proposal development, and supervising projects and/or people. Strong background in finance/budget management.
