Under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director for Financial Aid & Scholarshipsis responsible for the administration of the USC Upstate Scholars Foundation, the state programs – Hope, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows, outside scholarship awards and the administration of the USC Upstate Undergraduate Admissions institutional scholarship awards. This person is responsible for assisting Director in the day-to-day administration of the Financial Aid Office. Serves as the liaison with the community by conducting Financial Aid workshops for local high schools. Represents USC Upstate at University events. Serves as Financial Aid Counselor for students, parents, visitors, faculty and staff. Leads and trains staff members to provide financial aid services and support.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years financial aid or related experience. Master’s degree with accounting and or higher education knowledge is preferred. Public speaking experience. Experience with data systems, mainframe processing systems and a variety of personal computer software.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
A successful background check is required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to ensure accurate and timely delivery of funds to students. Occasional travel to professional workshops may also be required. Knowledgeable of federal and state regulations. Strong counseling and communication skills. Ability to learn and use new processing systems and software quickly and efficiently. Ability to manage concurrent job demands in an efficient manner with limited technical and mathematical errors. Great problem-solving skills. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents. Ability to identify processing irregularities.
