Job Description | The Assistant Director supports the Senior Director in resolving all non-academic student accountability matters involving individual students and student organizations, both on and off campus. This includes incidents in residence halls, classrooms, surrounding communities, global locations, and off-campus establishments. The Assistant Director Contributes to the overall success of the Office of Student Accountability by performing all other duties assigned by the Senior Director of Student Advocacy and Accountability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Investigate student and organization misconduct, conduct interviews, compile reports, and liaise with national organizations when needed. Coordinate and oversee student conduct hearings, including scheduling, notifying participants, reviewing evidence, and conducting pre-hearing meetings. Recruit, train, and support hearing board members (faculty, staff, students) annually. Assist the Senior Director in ensuring that hearings are conducted in accordance with recognized student and student organizational conduct procedures by serving as an advisor to such bodies, advising the chair regarding complex issues at hearings, clarifying conduct procedures, interpreting University policies as necessary, and serving as a Hearing Authority (chair) when deemed necessary. Ensures the confidentiality of all student conduct records contained in the Office of Student Accountability by supervising the maintenance and security of such records. Ensures that the University complies with federal mandates regarding student privacy by providing certification for agencies requesting student conduct information in accordance with FERPA. Designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs centered on, but not limited to, student ethical behavior, student rights and responsibilities, decision making, risk management (student organizations and Greek-lettered organizations), civility, community responsibilities, alcohol education, drug education, cross-cultural communication, and conflict resolution. Provides ongoing outreach and education for constituencies (including students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members) involving student conduct matters. Counsels’ individual students regarding their rights and responsibilities. Conducts assessments to monitor student learning outcomes because of referral to the University conduct process. Assists in the production of university documents, such as, manuals, forms, publications, website design, and/or reports, at the direction of the Director of Student Accountability. Serves as a liaison between the Office of Student Accountability and appropriate community agencies Serves as a resource to faculty, staff, and students who seek to resolve conflicts. Serves as a resource on complex legal issues evolving in higher education and serves as a student conduct consultant in clarifying procedures and options available to faculty, staff, students, and hearing boards in response to student behaviors. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Senior Director of Student Advocacy and Accountability. The Assistant Director of Student Conduct is supervised by the Senior Director of Student Advocacy and Accountability and supervises two graduate students.

Required Qualifications
Education | A bachelor’s degree is required in counseling, higher education administration, social work, psychology, public administration, or another closely related field.
Experience | One to three years of professional experience in Student Affairs, preferably in Residence Life, Student Conduct, or a related area. Experience in a residential life setting. Experience serving as a hearing officer or conducting investigations within the student conduct process. Working knowledge of student development theory, basic student counseling, and current issues and trends in student conduct. Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, the Clery Act, and hazing prevention. Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and alternative dispute resolution methods. Strong organizational skills, analytical and critical thinking abilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Education | A master’s degree is required in counseling, higher education administration, social work, psychology, public administration, or another closely related field.
Experience | Behavior Management System Proficient Three or more years of experience in Student Affairs at a four-year college or university, or in a Student Affairs-related position. One to three years of professional experience in Student Affairs, preferably in Residence Life, Student Conduct, or a related area. Experience in a residential life setting. Experience serving as a hearing officer or conducting investigations within the student conduct process. Working knowledge of student development theory, basic student counseling, and current issues and trends in student conduct. Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, the Clery Act, and hazing prevention. Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and alternative dispute resolution methods. Strong organizational skills and analytical/critical thinking abilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
