Job Description  | The Assistant Director is a key member of the Whitman Career Center team, responsible for leading advising, programming, and employer engagement for students pursuing careers in finance and real estate. This person drives the strategic direction of finance and real estate career services as functional head, working in close partnership with a dedicated career advisor who also focuses on this student population, and collaborating across the broader team on shared programming and innovation.
Education and Experience  | Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable. A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience is preferred. Experience in career counseling, recruiting, or a directly related higher education role is preferred. Experience with the unique needs of business students, knowledge of finance and real estate career paths, a background in career education program development and assessment, employer relations, and/or direct professional experience in finance are all valued.
Skills and Knowledge  | Strong relationship management skills internally and externally, with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively with students, employers, alumni, and colleagues. The ability to advise, coach, and mentor students and an executive presence that instills confidence in high-level professional settings are expected. Deep knowledge of finance and real estate industries and the undergraduate recruiting landscape is strongly preferred. Candidates without this knowledge who can demonstrate a credible, serious commitment to developing it thoroughly and quickly will be equally considered. Demonstrated commitment to student success and a collaborative approach to shared leadership and team goals are essential. Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and relationships in a fast-paced environment, are valued. High accountability, follow-through, and discretion in handling confidential student and employer information are required. Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Salesforce, database management, and online career platforms is required. Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends and to travel for employer visits, student events, career treks, and professional conferences is required.
Responsibilities  | Advising, Coaching, Teaching, and Training: Deliver career advising and coaching to Whitman’s discerning full-time undergraduate business students in person, virtually, and through online resources based on best practices, addressing emerging student needs and guiding each student from exploration and self-assessment through application materials, interview preparation, and offer negotiation with a focus on finance and real estate recruiting. Lead and facilitate skill-building workshops and group sessions relevant to finance and real estate recruiting, including preparation for technical interviews and networking strategies. Develop and implement career education programming with the Career Center team, applying career development theories and evidence-based methodologies to build student readiness across finance, real estate, and general business fields. Assess gaps in student engagement and career readiness; design and implement targeted strategies to deepen student participation and equip students with the competencies needed for success in finance and real estate recruiting. 
Employer Engagement and Relationship Development: Play a central role in building strategic partnerships and managing employer relationships in financial services and real estate, tailoring outreach to support internship and full-time placement and promoting Whitman students as top candidates. Build and sustain relationships with finance and real estate alumni, recruiting partners, Wall Street executives, and key industry leaders to create valuable networking opportunities. Collaborate with employers to understand hiring objectives and recruiting timelines, design targeted programming and student preparation that aligns employer expectations with student development, and leverage alumni expertise to reflect industry trends. Work closely with colleagues across multiple areas to ensure a coordinated approach to relationship management while cultivating the sector expertise needed to prepare students for premier finance and real estate recruiting. This role requires travel to industry events, conferences, and alumni gatherings. Frequency will vary based on organizational needs.
Strategy and Innovation: Drive strategy and innovation for finance and real estate career development programming, delivered and assessed with colleagues, contributing to design, delivery, and continuous improvement of career education for Whitman undergraduates. Monitor emerging trends and best practices in finance, real estate, and career services to keep offerings aligned with student and employer expectations. Leverage the Whitman network to build internship pipelines, alumni mentorship programs, and events that connect students to premier career paths. Lead annual development and delivery of signature initiatives to deepen student readiness for competitive finance recruiting, in partnership with colleagues, faculty, and industry partners. Plan and lead career exploration trips annually, coordinating logistics, employer and alumni engagement, and student preparation with the Career Center team, employer relations, alumni engagement, and development. Evaluate program effectiveness using data and employer feedback to strengthen offerings on an ongoing basis. Partner with Career Center colleagues to shape shared programming initiatives, bringing subject matter expertise and collaborative leadership to broader career readiness efforts and team priorities.
Outcomes and Accountability: Lead tracking, auditing, and analyzing internship and post-graduation placement outcomes for finance and real estate students with high attention to detail and accountability, in alignment with national reporting standards. Maintain accurate and timely data on student outcomes using Salesforce, contributing to the Career Center’s overall accountability and reporting processes. Drive strategic and proactive outreach to students, employers, and partners to maintain engagement, support pipeline development, and ensure consistent communication across the finance and real estate recruiting cycle.
