Assistant Vice President, Advancement Services Full Description

Position Summary: 
University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.
 
The Assistant Vice President, Advancement Services will oversee key operational functions that support the university's fundraising and donor engagement efforts. Provide strategic oversight for gift agreements management, donor services, and gifts and records services of over one million records including over 650,000 alumni to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and compliance of all philanthropic transactions. Partner closely with development officers, finance, legal teams, and university leadership to enhance donor experiences and maintain best practices in advancement operations. Oversee the acceptance and processing of all charitable contributions, over 90,000 gifts per year totaling $500 million, to NYU in accordance with University policy, donor intent, federal and state regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications: 
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree

Required Experience:
10+ years or more of direct experience in a leadership role in a complex development environment

Preferred Experience:
10+ years experience preferably in higher education

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Technical expertise and knowledge, with significant experience with hands-on management, application development, and financial reporting experience with large development and alumni data processing systems
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience within complex organizations preferably in higher education
  • Demonstrated information technology experience and leadership within a highly complex organization, including direct management of Advancement Services professionals
  • Proven expertise in leading the development of technology solutions to support, enhance, and optimize fundraising efforts
  • Demonstrated experience administering and complying with CASE and VSE reporting standards and guidelines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data management practices, data governance, and data security
  • Subject matter expertise in fundraising operations, understanding and interest in key industry issues
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of modern data management practices and techniques, including database information systems, data modeling, and analysis
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of philanthropy, development operations, and Advancement Services
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning expertise, as well as experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large diverse team

  • In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $185,000.00 to USD $235,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
