Scope of Job  | To provide comprehensive strategic operational oversight for university-wide curriculum initiatives at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, ensuring full compliance with UT System, federal, state, and accreditation requirements To collaborate closely with faculty, academic leaders, and external partners to develop new curricula, update existing programs, publish university catalogs, maintain articulation agreements, and broaden educational access through innovative credentialing pathways.

Description of Duties  | Directs the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of curriculum, establishing efficient business processes to increase organizational capacity. Ensures that curriculum proposals meet university guidelines and accreditation standards. Provides guidance and support to the Office of Curriculum and Institutional Assessment staff responsible for daily curriculum proposal review and revision processes. Works collaboratively with key offices—including the Graduate College, Degree Audit and Systems Support, Degree Progress and Graduation Initiatives, the Office of the University Registrar, Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions, Undergraduate Advising, and Financial Aid—to ensure curriculum alignment and consistency across all systems. Ensures all curriculum-related activities comply with state and regional accreditation standards (e.g., THECB, SACSCOC). Collaborates with deans, department heads, and faculty to develop and maintain academic programs aligned with institutional goals and evolving academic trends. Supervises the creation and ongoing management of articulation agreements with partner institutions to facilitate smooth student transfers, enhance credit applicability, and minimize unnecessary credit accumulation. Develops short and long-range plans, conceptual designs, budget requirements and documentation for assigned area. Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policy development. Evaluates and documents the effectiveness of transfer agreements by analyzing institutional data and student outcomes. Researches and develops policies for credential programs (e.g., micro credentials, badges) and works collaboratively with the Division of Student Success to integrate credential programs into both credit and non-credit curriculum bearing pathways. Supervises the expansion of fast-track programs and establishes policies and procedures for their development and maintenance. Creates and continuously assesses metrics to evaluate how credential programs affect student learning, employability, and institutional outcomes. Oversees institutional policies and procedures related to awarding credit for prior learning (CPL), which includes areas such as standardized exams, non-traditional credit providers, military training, and workforce training. Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Provost, academic departments, and external stakeholders regarding curricular matters Prepares reports and presentations for university leadership, accreditation bodies, and other stakeholders regarding curricular developments and initiatives as needed. Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience  | Experience obtained in a higher education setting. Experience in developing program advising guides, handbooks, etc., and managing the following: publication of university catalogs and maintenance of the institutional course inventory. Experience coordinating the preparation and publication of a variety of official university reports and publications and conducting research for academic policy development or interpretation. Experience in using data and evidence-based practices to inform decision-making around curriculum design, program evaluation, and improvement.

Working Conditions  | Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Familiarity with the regional and national accreditation standards and experience in preparing for accreditation reviews and reporting. Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to higher education curriculum. Strong ability to lead complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
