Job Description  | General Description:
The Associate Director will serve as the college’s senior technical data expert, providing direct SQL modeling and development, data warehouse engineering, and supervising business analysis support to administrative and academic departments. The position will work closely with functional offices, including Budget, Finance, Institutional Resources, and Enrollment Management, to translate business requirements into data solutions, develop complex SQL queries and datasets, and deliver data products that support institutional decision-making.

The position supervises a team consisting of a Business Analyst, Data Quality Manager, SAS Programmer, and SQL Developer responsible for delivering enterprise reporting, analytics, data governance, and data integration services across the college.



Duties and Tasks:Supervise, mentor, develop, and evaluate a team consisting of a Business Analyst, Data Quality Manager, SAS Programmer, and SQL Developer. Manage departmental workload, resource allocation, and project portfolios to ensure timely delivery of data and reporting solutions. Provide strategic leadership for data warehouse, business intelligence, and data governance initiatives. Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project status, risks, and resource needs to leadership. Design and maintain enterprise data architectures that support key stakeholder requests and expanding and supporting existing Budget and Finance data warehouse solutions. Evaluate existing data systems and identify opportunities for modernization, consolidation, and improved data accessibility. Provide technical oversight for enterprise ETL processes, data pipelines, data warehouse structures, and reporting environments. Guide the design, development, and optimization of SQL-based solutions supporting institutional reporting and analytics. Review technical designs, data models, SQL code, ETL processes, and reporting solutions developed by team members. Lead troubleshooting efforts for critical data integration, data quality, and reporting issues. Make regular requests from employees for updates and input on college decisions and share feedback with supervisors for inclusion in the NOVA Brief
Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Required KSAs:

Knowledge and ability in SQL, scripting languages and data tools for data manipulation and transformation. Knowledge of data pipeline and workflow management tools. Knowledge in architecting data warehousing and business intelligence solutions. Knowledge of Software as a service (SaaS) applications, and their integration from a dataflow perspective. Knowledge of industry trends and standards Ability to create data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, and/or Excel. Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server, as well as cloud technologies. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical data solutions. Ability to keep up to date knowledge of industry trends and standards. Ability to deliver quality systems within a management-approved schedule, and to work on technical teams as needed. Ability to lead/manage projects and be accountable for project development and execution; manage the details of a project while remaining aware of the overall application/business requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:Experience supervising and leading technical professionals responsible for any of the following: data, reporting, analytics, or software development functions. Experience developing in SQL and relational database platforms in support of reporting and analytics environments. Experience designing, implementing, or supporting complex data products or business intelligence solutions. Experience communicating technical concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Considerations  | Additional Considerations: Experience supervising Business Analysts, Data Engineers, SQL Developers, Reporting Developers, or Data Quality professionals. Experience supporting budgeting, finance, or human resources systems Experience in a higher education organization. Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, Azure, or similar enterprise data platforms. Experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle Fusion Cloud or other ERP systems. Experience implementing data governance and data quality programs. Experience leading enterprise reporting, analytics, and institutional data initiatives. Experience overseeing ETL development, reporting architecture, and data integration initiatives.
