Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The unit of Academic Programs and Undergraduate research is dedicated to implementing well-planned strategies and tactics to support enrollment and meet established goals. Strategies include marketing, admission policies, retention programs, and financial aid awarding. Strategies and tactics are informed by collection, analysis, and use of data to project successful outcomes.
Primary Purpose of Position | The Associate Director of University Scholars Program ensures the development and successful implementation of a scholarship program that supports the unit of Academic Programs and Undergraduate Research and Enrollment Management objectives of the University by working with deans and department heads, various administrative departments and committees to optimize the enrollment and impact of institutional and foundation scholarships.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Mastery level knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding scholarships and student financial aid is required. Knowledge of University policies related to scholarships and student financial aid is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective presentations before large groups of students and parents. Knowledge and sensitivity to issues related to the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body. The ability to collect and analyze data, converting it to information that can be communicated to other University personnel. The ability to relate effectively to students, parents, staff, faculty and administrators is required. Strong organizational and management skills are required. The ability to use office application software, preferably Microsoft Office Products. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect of and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Knowledge to coordinate for Scholars their enrichment experiences (study abroad, internships, scholar block workshops, etc.)
Minimum Education/Experience | Master’s Degree required and five years of experience in a college or university student financial aid, admissions or scholarship office is required. Substantial experience in honors advising and scholarship administration and programming is preferred. Experience with the Banner student information system is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function | Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. | This position reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Undergraduate Research and is responsible for the following:
1. Coordinates with the Office of Undergrad Admissions, Office of Scholarships & Student Aid and other offices and departments to ensure effective promulgation of the scholarship program as part of the overall student recruitment effort.
2. Contributes to the development of an effective scholarship program by serving as an ex-officio member of the University Scholarship Committee and presenting data, analysis and recommendations to the committee.
3. Ensures effective promotion of the University’s scholarship program to students, parents, high school counselors, and others by coordinating with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Scholarships and Student Aid, the Honors Program, and academic departments in the development and maintenance of scholarship web pages and publications.
4. Ensures an effective selection process for scholarship recipients by developing scholarship application forms, providing information to relevant departments and committees on a timely basis, and other offices (Admissions ) to plan and implement scholarship interview events and banquets for competitive scholarships such as the Chancellor’s Cycle of Success Scholarships and Cheatham-White Scholarship.
5. Manages the dissemination of scholarship award letters by developing effective letters and scholarship acceptance forms consistent with scholarship and other University policies and indirectly overseeing the production of scholarship award letters.
6. Develops annual scholarship budget projections based on historical rates of retention, anticipated enrollments of new students and other factors.
7. Contributes to the positive image of NCCU by coordinating representation of the University by faculty and staff at various scholarship award events both in and outside of Durham.
8. Ensures the effective use of Foundation scholarship accounts by coordinating with Institutional Advancement in the development of the Foundation scholarship application process and the dissemination of relevant information regarding scholarship applicants to departments and selection committees.
9. Helps to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations by coordinating with the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid to advise in the preparation of required reports.
10. Follows University scholarship and financial aid policies and adheres to professional and ethical standards established by relevant professional organizations, such as American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrations (NASFAA).
11. Coordinates the review of and action on appeals from students for exceptions to scholarship policies.Function | Administrative

2. Supervise all aspects of Scholarship College office and staff. Be accountable for academic, administrative and financial processes.
3. Meet regularly with the or designee to discuss Scholars news, issues and initiatives. Annually, identify goals and expected outcomes for Scholars.
4. Attend all meetings of the University Scholarship Committee and represent the Scholarship Office on campus and in the community. Advocate for academic requirements and needs that advance program standards and individual student success.
5. Work with faculty and academic departments, and the college deans, to assure adequate complement and course scheduling. Coordinate with Admissions, Registrar, Academic Advisement and other University offices.
6. Collaborate with the University Honors Program (UHP) Director on the the Honors Program admissions process and assist with the selection of recipients for merit scholarships and other academic awards in the UHP.
7. Supervise the Cheatham-White Scholarship Program and Summer Experience such as internships or study abroad.
8.Work with Institutional Advancement on donor and alumni initiatives.
9. Prepare and submit annual reports identifying program and student accomplishments, progress toward outcomes and next steps.
10. Fulfill all other administrative duties assigned by the Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Undergraduate Research or designee.Function | Administrative

1. Advocate for students through effective leadership and advisement.
2. Recruit students, arrange schedules, and facilitate academic and community engagement programs for scholars.
3. Assist the University Honors Program and its members in advancing the living and learning community model.
4. Advise and advocate for individual students and for the student community in general.
6. Act as campus liaison for internal and external scholarship programs.
7. Advise students on research, internship and other opportunities.
8. Meet regularly with students to assure successful matriculation.
9. Promote strategies that encourage student success in fulfilling the mission and requirements of the Scholarship Program.
