Position Summary:As a member of the Instructional Design Team, the Instructional Design Associate (IDA) advances Cleary University’s educational mission by ensuring that Cleary learning materials and learning experiences are engaging and pedagogically effective and meet the highest standards in terms of accessibility and ease of use. The IDA’s primary focus is the design, creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of learning materials and experiences delivered via Cleary’s Canvas LMS. The IDA also contributes regularly to the development and delivery of faculty training and professional development content; responds to time-sensitive faculty and student help requests; and maintains detailed records of planned, in-progress, and completed instructional-design tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Design and implement engaging and effective coursework (including content, media, and assignments) for Cleary’s diverse student populations, with particular emphasis on active learning experiences across modalities (in person, hybrid, and fully online). Ensure that learning materials and experiences adhere to ADA Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 accessibility guidelines.Work with faculty and subject matter experts to develop new and revised courses.Drive timelines within course-creation and course-revision projects through use of project management skills and project plans to ensure deadlines are met and high-quality materials are designed.Maintain courses in Cleary’s Canvas and LearnWorlds Learning Management Systems, including attention to issues such as content sequencing, flow of information, relevance of media, and integration of technologies (including e-texts, Cleary-authored “self-publication” materials, and OER materials).Triage and review student and faculty issues that arise due to questions about course content and integration of technologies, especially before and immediately after semester and session starts.Contribute to the development and delivery of faculty training and professional development content.Participate in meetings and activities relevant to the needs of Cleary Academics and the broader University community, including:attending required academic and university meetings.attending and supporting required university events.Execute other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or Educational Technology. One to three years of experience in student-facing instructional design, educational technology, training development, or a related field, with priority given to candidates with experience at the post-secondary/university level.Experience using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, LearnWorlds, etc.).Knowledge of federal and state laws related to usability and accessibility (e.g., ADA Section 508) and accessibility guidelines (i.e.,WCAG 2.2).Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills.Availability to work evenings/weekends occasionally as needed to ensure that Cleary faculty and students receive prompt support when problems arise in Canvas.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Instructional Design or Educational Technology.Experience using content authoring and management tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Camtasia Studio, Blackboard Collaborate, HTML5, Canvas, Moodle, SCORM, H5P, etc.).Experience designing and building ADA Section 508 and WCAG 2.2 compliant learning materials and experiences.Experience applying quality improvement principles, processes and rubrics (such as Quality Matters or UDL) to ensure consistent, high-quality learning content.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear.Standard office environment; occasional evening/weekend work for Cleary events and to ensure that Cleary faculty and students receive prompt support when problems arise in Canvas.Remote Work (if applicable): Some positions may be eligible for hybrid work arrangements as determined by the university. Remote work is not a guaranteed condition of employment and may be modified or discontinued at any time based on business needs, performance, or operational requirements.
Compensation and Benefits:Salary commensurate with experience. Eligible for full-time university benefits package (if applicable).
