Job Description

Position Summary:

Are you passionate about learning and eager to grow your career in learning design? Penn Foster is seeking an Associate Learning Designer to join our Content, Strategy, and Creation team. In this role, you will support the design, evaluation, and continuous improvement of online learning experiences aligned with Penn Foster’s Skills-based Education framework. This position is ideal for individuals early in their learning design careers who want hands-on experience creating learner-centered online courses.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist in the design and development of learner-centered online learning experiences aligned with Skills-based Education principles.
  • Contribute to pilots and iterative course improvements by implementing defined updates based on learner feedback, data, and quality reviews.
  • Conduct content evaluations to ensure accessibility, pedagogical effectiveness, and adherence to universal design principles.
  • Support smaller-scale course development efforts or defined course components under the guidance of senior Learning Designers.
  • Collaborate with peers and cross-functional partners to ensure learning solutions meet quality standards and learner needs.
  • Stay updated on best practices in instructional design, accessibility, and educational technology.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in learning design, instructional design, instructional technology, or a related field
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Learning Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
  • Design Foundations: Working knowledge of instructional design principles, learning science fundamentals, accessibility standards, and active learning strategies.
  • Technical Skills: Some familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, D2L) and comfort learning to use AI-enabled tools to support content authoring.
  • Growth Mindset: Strong attention to detail, openness to feedback, and eagerness to learn from senior designers.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, ask thoughtful questions, and contribute positively to shared goals.
  • Innovation Awareness: Interest in emerging educational technologies and a curiosity about how they can improve learner engagement and outcomes.
