Job Description:

The Associate Network Infrastructure Engineer, under direct supervision, assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of Structured Cabling Systems (SCS) to support telecommunications, audiovisual, security, LAN, WAN, intranets, extranets, VoIP, and other low-voltage technology infrastructure requirements within University facilities. Gains hands-on experience with industry standards, compliance regulations, and project coordination while working closely with senior engineers, vendors, contractors, and end users. This role serves as an entry point for individuals seeking to develop expertise in network infrastructure engineering.

Position Salary: $70,000.00 per year

Essential Duties:

• Assists in the installation, implementation, and maintenance of SCS infrastructure to meet University requirements.

• Supports senior engineers in managing multiple projects, ensuring compliance with guidelines, timelines, and budgets.

• Learns to coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure SCS designs align with project requirements.

• Reviews construction progress related to SCS installation and provides reports on compliance and efficiency.

• Assists in evaluating requests from end-users and facilities representatives for SCS services, determining feasibility, costs, and equipment requirements.

• Participates in the development of procedures for installing, using, and troubleshooting telecommunications infrastructure.

• Gains exposure to network infrastructure technologies and assists in designing networking solutions under supervision.

• Aids in cost estimation and value engineering recommendations for SCS capital projects.

• Assists in long-term facility planning to forecast telecommunication infrastructure needs, budgeting, and scheduling.

• Communicates with vendors to gather product information, resolve system maintenance issues, and ensure compatibility with University infrastructure.

• Performs additional technical and administrative duties as assigned.

• Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit's efficiency and overall performance.

• Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.

• Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.

Desired Qualifications:

• Industry certifications such as BICSI Installer, BICSI Technician, BICSI OSP, or equivalent preferred.

• Experience or coursework in structured cabling, network infrastructure, or telecommunications systems.

• Prior internship or relevant work experience in a higher education or enterprise environment.

Working Environment:

• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting with extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and computer use.

• Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

• Responsibilities may involve shifting priorities rapidly and addressing urgent issues as they arise.

• Regular site walks in active buildings and construction sites are required. Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills are essential.
