St. Louis Community College is hiring an Associate Tutor, TRIO Upward Bound to help high school students in the TRIO Upward Bound program work through the academic challenges of college-preparatory coursework. The tutor supports teachers and students directly in the classroom, leads individual and small-group tutoring sessions, and coaches students toward becoming independent learners. Sessions run on Saturdays throughout the academic year and during a six-week summer program.

Associate Tutor, TRIO Upward Bound Full Description
Position Summary
Associate Tutors are responsible for assisting TRIO Upward Bound high school students with the academic challenges they encounter while taking college preparatory classes. Associate Tutors will be responsible for assisting teachers and high school students in classroom learning. Associate Tutors are responsible for assisting students in completing assignments and other program activities. Associate Tutors support students during Saturday sessions and during the academic year and/or during the six-week summer program. Associate Tutors must be proficient in one of the following subject areas: English, math (algebra through pre-calculus), Science (biology, chemistry and/or physics), foreign language (Spanish, French, or Latin).
Primary Duties Performed
Assists high school students and teachers in the subject area being taught.
Responsible for assisting students in completing assignments and assisting with supervising participants during program activities.
Provides individual and small group tutoring sessions in various academic disciplines to facilitate student mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study.
May facilitate learning as a coach or mentor to assist students in becoming successful, independent learners.
Integrates effective study and learning strategies to maximize student potential for academic progress.
May assist students with the use of institutional and instructional technology.
Assists with the development and delivery of tutor training.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience
An Associate’s Degree and at least a 3.0 GPA in the desired or a closely related tutoring discipline, and at least one (1) year relevant experience.
Ability to work flexible hours including Saturdays and evenings as needed. Hours may vary.
