CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The University of Delaware Information Technologies (UDIT) (www.it.udel.edu) provides the IT infrastructure, central systems, applications, and services that support UD’s teaching, learning, research, administration, and outreach. Within UDIT, the Enterprise Systems & Data Management (ESDM) unit maintains the University’s central computing environment, including enterprise ERP systems, core business applications, and enterprise data governance. ESDM also supports mobile apps, workflow and document management, and campus-wide web services critical to UD’s mission.

The Associate Vice President, Enterprise Systems & Data Management (ESDM) leads the unit responsible for maintaining and advancing the University of Delaware’s enterprise systems, core business applications, and data governance to support the institution’s teaching, research, administrative, and outreach missions. This role ensures the delivery of secure, reliable, and forward-looking technology services that align with University goals while fostering operational excellence and innovation. The Associate Vice President reports to the Vice President of Information Technologies and works collaboratively with senior leadership and stakeholders across the University to advance institutional priorities through technology.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide University-wide leadership in developing, supporting, and advancing institutional business systems, data management, and governance to ensure the long-term success of administrative systems and data initiatives.
  • Lead and strategically direct UDIT’s Enterprise Systems unit, setting priorities and developing application and systems roadmaps aligned with IT strategic plans.
  • Oversee Enterprise Applications, Application Development, and Enterprise Data Management and Governance functions.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to the VP of IT, senior administrators, and the campus community, collaborating on IT strategy, project selection, and prioritization to meet institutional needs.
  • Establish standards, policies, and goals in collaboration with campus and UDIT leaders to ensure IT services support the University’s teaching, research, and administrative objectives.
  • Develop and execute a University-aligned data management vision and strategy, defining future-state architecture and roadmaps while guiding technology investments to reduce risk and enable adaptive, secure solutions.
  • Lead a team of professionals in designing and maintaining forward-looking data architecture, building and supporting new enterprise software and services, and directing data management, system integration, and reporting operations.
  • Advise and influence senior leadership and stakeholders on data management and architecture initiatives, fostering a consistent, informed, and collaborative culture across the University.
  • Direct ESDM’s administration and operations, creating a high-performance, customer-focused team that meets University goals while ensuring continuous professional development and accountability.
  • Oversee staff recruitment, hiring, training, and effective deployment, fostering an innovative, and service-oriented environment.
  • Monitor projects in collaboration with the PMO, partnering with departments to establish priorities and goals for enterprise technology solutions, while driving continuous improvement in operations and service delivery.
  • Manage budgets and procurement, including vendor contract negotiations, to support unit operations efficiently.
  • Provide expert consultation on enterprise systems and data management methodologies and emerging technologies, ensuring UD remains progressive and secure in its IT infrastructure and services.
  • Lead planning, implementation, and support for enterprise systems and applications, including custom application development, system troubleshooting, and operational support.
  • Oversee security and disaster recovery planning for enterprise systems in collaboration with the Chief Information Security Officer, ensuring compliance with security policies and supporting business continuity across the University.
  • Anticipate and evaluate emerging technologies, guiding adoption and strategy execution to keep UD at the forefront of technological innovation.
  • Prepare and present technical and non-technical information to stakeholders, supporting IT initiatives in partnership with the CIO.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across the University, collaborating to plan, deliver, and enhance technology services aligned with institutional goals, and incorporates feedback to improve service delivery.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of University structures, goals, and operations while staying current with emerging technologies and best practices through professional engagement and external partnerships.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and nine years of related experience, or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
