Job Description  | General Description:
The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Affairs provides visionary leadership and operational oversight for five critical student-facing units: Enrollment Services; Financial Aid and Compliance; Registration and Records; International Student Services; and the College Information Center. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the AVP ensures an integrated, student-centered approach to enrollment, retention, credentialing, and holistic support.

Employees must reside in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia.

Duties and Tasks: Enrollment Services Leadership Develop and implement strategic enrollment plans that drive headcount growth, retention benchmarks, and outcomes targets. Collaborate with academic affairs, marketing, and community partners to optimize outreach, engagement, and yield initiatives. Monitor enrollment metrics (application volume, yield rate, demographic trends) and recommend process improvements.  Financial Aid & Compliance Administer all federal, state, and institutional aid programs—from award packaging through reconciliation, ensuring accuracy, equity, and timely disbursement. Lead compliance and audit activities: maintain currency on Title IV, state scholarship, and institutional policies; conduct internal reviews; respond to external audits; prepare and file required regulatory reports. Develop, document, and update financial aid policies, procedures, and office manuals; design and deliver training and quality-assurance testing; serve as the go-to resource for complex system, data, and regulatory questions. Collaborate with Admissions, Registrar, Student Accounts, Controller, Budget Office, IT, and other campus committees to streamline workflows, data exchanges, and communications that support student service and institutional integrity.
Registration & Records Direct all aspects of student record maintenance, and transcript services, ensuring FERPA compliance and data integrity. Partner with academic deans and directors to align curriculum changes, coordinate course scheduling, catalog updates, and commencement processes. Leverage technology solutions to streamline registration workflows and enhance self-service functionality.
College Information Center Supervise the operations of the Information Center, coordinating front-line staff who manage inquiries via walk-in, phone, email, and chat. Set service-level expectations, work with director to craft knowledge-based content, and analyze inquiry trends to inform broader communications strategies. Foster a culture of welcoming, accurate, and timely responses that reflect institutional values.
International Student Services Drive the institution’s internationalization strategy—aligned with academic and enrollment goals—by advising senior leadership on global trends and partnerships, monitoring enrollment data, and refining outreach tactics. Oversee all facets of international student services, including advising, immigration compliance, orientation, transition, cultural programming, and well-being initiatives that foster belonging and success. Measure and report on performance by tracking enrollment, retention, and satisfaction metrics; conducting service assessments; and preparing accreditation, compliance, and strategic planning reports. Strategic Collaboration & Assessment Serve on the Student Affairs leadership team to align division goals with the institution’s strategic plan, budget priorities, and enrollment projections. Use data analytics, satisfaction surveys, and compliance reports to measure unit performance and guide continuous improvement. Build and sustain cross-sector partnerships with K–12, workforce agencies, and community organizations to expand pipeline opportunities.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | KSAs Extensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, FERPA requirements, and accreditation standards affecting student services and enrollment management. Demonstrated ability to use data to inform decision-making, assess outcomes, and drive improvements. Knowledge of enterprise systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) and reporting/analytics tools to support enrollment, financial aid, and student success functions. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences, including senior leadership, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. Skilled in stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and consensus-building across complex organizations. Ability to provide collaborative leadership that advances equity, inclusion, and student success initiatives, fostering a culture of shared purpose and continuous improvement across diverse teams. Ability to supervise and develop professional staff, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement. Ability to develop and implement strategic enrollment and student support initiatives aligned with institutional goals. Strong organizational and project management skills, with capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of strategic enrollment management and the assessment of student success performance metrics. 
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or in a field appropriately related to the position. Qualifying degree must have been awarded by a regionally accredited institution. Experience in progressively responsible roles within student affairs. Direct supervisory experience and demonstrated success managing multiple functional areas.
