GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Director of Career Coaching oversees the Toppel Career Center’s peer-to-peer career coaching services that serve as a catalyst for student engagement with the Center. This position directly supervises the peer Career Coach team. Reporting directly to the Director of Career Education, the Assistant Director will also oversee programs and resources related to mentorship, including assisting with the implementation of the Cane2Cane platform for students-alumni connections.

Starting salary: $50,000 annually

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Peer-to-Peer Career Coaching

  • Supervise up to 14 peer (undergraduate and graduate) Career Coaches who assist with outreach and drop-in career coaching
  • Manage recruitment and selection process for peer Career Coach staff
  • Manage and facilitate ongoing training of peer Career Coaches in these areas: career coaching theory and strategies, facilitating outreach workshops, and career resources
  • Manage online resume and practice interview review process through Handshake career management platform and Big Interview platform
  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Career Readiness by providing professional development to all Toppel student interns

Mentorship Initiatives

  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Career Readiness with the management of the Cane2Cane (PeopleGrove) web-based mentoring platform to facilitate connections between students, alumni, and community members, which includes user access, training, and support; evaluating and implementing new features; and serving as a point of contact for campus partners and community members interested in contributing to the platform
  • Market the Cane2Cane platform and analyze user engagement
  • Lead the Cane2Cane groups feature, including creating groups based on overall Career Education strategy, monitoring group activity, and assessing their impact in collaboration with Alumni Engagement colleagues
  • Design educational resources to enhance students’ ability to network and seek out mentors effectively

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate innovative programming as market trends change 
  • Maintain weekly career coaching schedule on an as-needed basis 
  • Serve as liaison to schools and colleges as established with the Director
  • Assist with department’s student assessment measures
  • Participate in weekly meetings with team members
  • Staff events during some evening and weekend hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Skilled in assessing, organizing, and prioritizing multiple tasks
  • Ability to present to small and large audiences on career-related topics
  • Skilled in training and supervision

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or related area preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Two to four years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree
  • An appropriate combination of relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience will be considered
