Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement: The Athletic Academic Counselor in the Gossett Student-Athlete Center for Academic and Personal Excellence (GSAC) is responsible for assisting student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives, culminating in the earning of a University degree. This individual will serve as the primary contact and athletic academic counselor, responsible for overseeing the implementation of academic plans and monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes assigned to Olympic sport programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participating in the recruitment, orientation, pre-registration, and enrollment of student-athletes; acting as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athlete academic matters; tracking and monitoring academic progress; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: The Position requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, along with the ability to operate standard office equipment with manual dexterity. The role involves occasional standing or walking to attend meetings or conduct orientations and may require lifting light office materials (up to 20 pounds). Visual acuity and effective verbal and auditory communication are essential for reviewing payroll data and interacting with employees in person, by phone, or virtually. 

Preferences: A Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Education, or a related field. A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience in post-secondary athletic academic services is preferred. Experience working with various components of the Teamworks software is preferred. Possessing a working knowledge of the NCAA's ongoing eligibility rules and regulations is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience providing counseling or advising services.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 
Knowledge of best practices in counseling and mentoring students.
Knowledge of academic programs and graduation requirements.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
