Job Summary
The Associate Vice President (AVP) and Director of Undergraduate Admissions serves as a senior admissions leader at Cleveland State University (CSU), responsible for the strategic direction, operational management, and continuous improvement of undergraduate recruitment and admissions. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the AVP translates CSU’s mission and strategic priorities into enrollment goals and data-informed recruitment plans that attract, enroll, and support various talented student body. Provides executive oversight across domestic and international recruitment, admissions operations, new student orientation, enrollment events, and prospective student marketing and communications. Cultivates high-level partnerships with academic deans and college leadership, aligns messaging and outreach across institutional channels, uses market intelligence and enrollment data to develop forward-looking projections and recruitment strategies. Leads a high-performing team committed to customer service, operational excellence, and measurable outcomes. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in higher education administration, business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of progressive experience in planning, management, and administration of higher education enrollment operations; five (5) years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience with CRM systems, particularly Slate (Technolutions), including optimization for recruitment, communications, and enrollment reporting.
  • Proficient with ERP systems and electronic document/records management platforms.
  • Experience directing prospective student marketing and communications campaigns across digital, email, print, and other channels.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to establish driver eligibility under the University’s Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree, preferably in higher education administration, business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience recruiting students in Northeast Ohio and the broader Great Lakes region, with an understanding of regional demographic trends and college-going patterns.
  • Experience leading or contributing to international student recruitment strategy, including partnership development with overseas agents or pathway programs.
  • Experience with public, urban university serving various, first-generation, and non-traditional student populations.
  • Advance experience applying data analytics and predictive modeling to improve enrollment outcomes and develop strategic recruitment plans.
  • Familiarity with IPEDS data, FAFSA analytics, and financial aid packaging strategies as enrollment levers.
  • Experience building or scaling unified communications platforms within a CRM environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of enrollment management best practices, including funnel management, territory design, financial aid leveraging, and yield strategy.
  • Ability to analyze complex enrollment data, identify trends, develop projections, and translate insights into actionable recruitment plans.
  • Working knowledge of IPEDS benchmarking, CRM reporting (Slate), and ERP-based student information systems (PeopleSoft/Workday).
  • Ability to inspire, develop, and manage a team of admissions professionals within a customer service-oriented, high-accountability framework.
  • Skilled at setting strategic vision, aligning team goals to institutional priorities, and driving measurable outcomes through clear performance management.
  • Ability to manage dynamic workloads, allocate resources effectively, and lead through organizational change.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with various constituencies including students, families, faculty, and senior leadership.
  • Skilled in representing the institution at state and national conferences, advisory boards, and professional associations.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic vision with short-term operational execution; strong project management and change management capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
