At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in San Jose, CA! If you're committed to making a difference in the lives of students with special needs and helping them achieve academic success, we want to hear from you!

About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in San Jose, CA

Details:
  • In-Person Tutoring in San Jose, CA
  • Schedule: 25 hours a month; 3x a week for 2hrs
  • $25-$35 per hour

Ideal Candidate:
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish (required) 
  •  Experience working with adult learners with Down syndrome or developmental disabilities 
  •  Strong background in functional academics, communication development, and life-skills instruction 
  •  Skilled in supporting reading fluency, comprehension, foundational math, handwriting, and executive functioning 
  •  Comfortable teaching adult learners in a respectful, age-appropriate, and empowering manner 
  •  Patient, encouraging, and able to build confidence and independence through structured instruction 
  •  Experience using speech-informed strategies and communication supports is highly preferred 
  •  Able to create engaging lesson plans tailored to real-world functional goals and independent living skills 
  •  Familiar with social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies and self-advocacy development 
  •  Strong organizational and rapport-building skills with neurodiverse adult learners

Key Responsibilities:
  •  Conduct an initial assessment to identify current academic and functional skill levels 
  •  Provide individualized instruction in functional literacy, foundational math, and reading comprehension 
  •  Strengthen communication and expressive language skills with a focus on self-advocacy and independence 
  •  Support executive functioning skills including planning, organization, sequencing, and task completion 
  •  Reinforce social-emotional learning (SEL) and confidence-building through structured, supportive sessions 
  •  Teach functional academic skills that can be applied in daily living and community settings 
  •  Support handwriting development and practical written communication skills 
  •  Create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that promote independence and meaningful participation 
  •  Use repetition, visuals, guided practice, and real-world examples to reinforce learning 
  •  Collaborate with caregivers and adjust instruction based on progress and evolving goals
