About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Long Beach, CA
Details:
- In-Person Tutoring in Long Beach, CA
- Schedule: 6 hours per month, 1x a week for 1hr 30mins per session
- Pay range is between $25 and $35
Ideal Candidate:
- Valid teaching credential required (Special Education strongly preferred)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
- Experience working with students with Cerebral Palsy and complex communication needs
- Strong background in supporting non-verbal students and use of AAC devices
- Experience teaching foundational literacy skills (reading, phonics, comprehension) at the elementary level
- Knowledge of foundational math skills and concepts, including number sense and problem-solving
- Experience supporting language and communication development through multimodal strategies
- Familiarity with IEP-based instruction and collaboration with ABA, Speech, and Occupational Therapy providers
- Patient, structured, and highly attentive to individual learning and communication needs
- Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct an initial assessment to determine current academic and communication levels
- Provide individualized instruction in foundational literacy, including reading, phonics, and comprehension
- Deliver math instruction focused on foundational skills and core math concepts using visual and hands-on strategies
- Support development of language and communication skills through consistent use of the student’s AAC device
- Incorporate multimodal teaching strategies (visuals, modeling, repetition, hands-on activities) to support learning
- Collaborate with therapy teams (ABA, Speech, OT) to ensure consistency and alignment with IEP goals
- Implement structured, predictable sessions with clear routines and expectations
- Provide support during moments of frustration using calm, patient, and reinforcing strategies
- Incorporate student interests (e.g., YouTube, PlayStation, school activities) to increase engagement and motivation
- Monitor progress and adjust instruction based on student responsiveness and goals
- Maintain a supportive, structured, and encouraging learning environment
- Communicate regularly with caregivers regarding progress and strategies
