Salary Range
Classification Range $25.86 - $36.59 per hour. Hiring range depending on qualifications, not anticipated to exceed $25.86 - $28.54 per hour.
Work Schedule
Monday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2027, with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

Department
The College of Business and Economics within the Division of Academic Affairs is committed to leading business education through the guiding principles of program quality, balancing theory and practice, and expanding outreach and visibility. The Dean’s Office is seeking a Business Advisor (Student Services Professional I-Range B) with a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Director of the Business Advising Center, the Business Advisor provides academic advising and support to undergraduate students within the College of Business and Economics, guiding newly admitted and continuing students through individual appointments, group advising sessions, workshops, and presentations.
Key responsibilities include advising students on degree requirements, course selection, transcript evaluations, academic policies and procedures, and academic standing, including probation-related support. The Business Advisor also assists with student success initiatives, special programs, orientations, and educational workshops designed to promote retention, engagement, and academic achievement.
Additional responsibilities include managing advising appointments, email correspondence, and drop-in advising services; reviewing and processing TDA exceptions for approved electives and course substitutions; evaluating coursework; processing change-of-major requests; and maintaining accurate student records. The role supports an assigned student population, coordinates outreach and intervention strategies based on student needs, and provides advising support during front desk coverage.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration, or a job-related field, plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, and equivalent amounts of job-related graduate-level education may be substituted for the required experience.
Requires working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations; the ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization; and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, or if the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
Preferred Qualifications
Currently enrolled in or having completed a master’s degree. Previous experience advising an undergraduate student population, with the ability to advise or counsel students individually and in groups. Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of an undergraduate advisement office.
License/Certifications
A valid California driver’s license.
