About the Job
This position has a term length of 2 years.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Reporting to the Manager, Business Transformation within the Office of Strategic Transformation and Delivery (OSTAD), the Business Analyst plays a key role in complex business transformation, business process re-engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives across the University.

The Business Analyst is responsible for proactively meeting and exceeding the diverse needs of the University community. This position works collaboratively with campus partners in the Student Service Centre, Office of the Registrar, Colleges, Faculties, Centres of Expertise, Dean of Students, University of Alberta International, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, Students and external partners across campus to lead mid to large scale process changes and transformation initiatives. The Business Analyst exercises autonomy and demonstrates leadership to team members within projects. The Business Analyst influences teams and stakeholders towards a unified direction to identify opportunities to improve and innovate processes, services and technology to ensure they meet the goals and objectives.

Responsibilities
Analysis
  • Lead the assessment of current business processes and systems to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for transformation.
  • Elicit, analyze, and document complex business and functional requirements using interviews, workshops, and workflow analysis.
  • Works closely with stakeholders to design future-state processes and evaluate potential people process, and technology solutions for feasibility and ROI. 
  • Provides options, advice, or recommendations regarding business process change, system functionality, or customizations/fixes required.
  • Remains up-to-date on best practices by other Canadian post-secondary institutions.
  • Through data collection, analysis and working with stakeholders, ensures that University policy and procedures are fair, efficient, and applied consistently and equitably.
  • Develops and articulates proposals on process changes based on research and data analysis.

Project implementation
  • Leads medium to large scale multi-disciplinary initiatives.
  • Works with IST, vendors, and technical resources to ensure business requirements are built to the client’s expectations.
  • Takes a lead roles in drafting project documentation, including recommendation reports and business cases.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed timeframes.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify risks, and devise contingency plan.

Policy, Procedures, and Training
  • In collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts, provides leadership on developing and maintaining training programs and reference manuals, and ensures updates and changes to business processes are reflected in training programs.
  • In collaboration with subject matter experts, provides recommendations to leadership on the implementation of new processes and procedures.

Quality Assurance
  • In collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts, develops and implements quality management procedures and methods.

Communication and Collaboration
  • Provides a communication link between the business areas and leadership.
     
Qualifications
  • Related post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Computing Science, Management Information Systems or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressing increasing responsibility in either a systems analyst or business analyst role.
  • Certification in a Business Analysis program certified by International Institute of Business Analysts.
  • Experience in lean six sigma and continuous improvement
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools. Proven organizational change management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills and ability to synthesize and clearly communicate complex findings to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build relationships, communicate, influence, advocate, and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills for leading effective teams, and are able to put forth ideas (written, verbal, and presentations) confidently to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary environment is an asset.
